Falcons Set Sights On Akron With Three-Game Weekend Series

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team continues Mid-American Conference play this weekend against the Akron Zips. The Falcons and Zips are set for a three-game series in Akron at Skeeles Field. The first two games of the weekend will take place on Friday (March 17), beginning with an 11:05 p.m first pitch. The third game of the series will be played either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weather of the weekend.

Game 3: TBD, Saturday or Sunday (March 18-19)
Scouting Akron
The Zips will enter the weekend series coming off a midweek loss to Dayton Wednesday (March 15), moving to the team to a 5-10 overall record overall while holding a 1-2 record in the MAC. The Zips opened up their conference schedule last weekend, taking one of three from Eastern Michigan, winning the series finale 6-5. At the plate, Akron is led by Ian Pennington, batting .346 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs and 10 RBI. Pennington is joined by Jack Firestone, who is batting .269 and has six home runs in just 14 games.

The Falcons and Zips have met 78 times dating back to 1983 with the Falcons holding a 47-31 record over that time. The Falcons currently hold a three-game win streak over the Akron program, after taking the final three games of last season's four-game series. The Falcons hosted Akron for the series, losing the first game but winning the final three and outscoring the Zips 41-22 over the course of the weekend.

- Sam Seidel is currently in the midst of a six-game hitting streak and a four-game stolen bases streak. At the plate, Seidel is 7-for-18 (.389) with three RBI, three runs scored and a home run. As for the base paths, Seidel has five stolen bases over the last four games and is a perfect 6-for-6 on steal attempts.
- Continuing from last year, the Falcons are one of the most aggressive teams in the MAC on the base paths. BGSU is averaging 1.85 stolen bases per game, a mark that is third in the MAC and 37th in the nation.
- The Falcons enter the weekend as one of the better double-play teams in the nation. So far this season, BGSU has turned 14 double plays, averaging 1.08 per game. That average is first in the MAC and tied for eighth in the nation.
