Concealing The Chargers
Alabama Huntsville will enter the weekend series against the Falcons holding a 2-24-6 overall record while being 2-18-6-1 in the WCHA. The Chargers are coming off a matchup against Minnesota State where they were outscored by the Mavericks 18-0 over the two games. The two losses extended the winless streak to six for Alabama Huntsville, despite having two ties over the span. With just two wins, the Chargers have bested Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech this season. Despite just two wins, UAH has been shutout just six times this year over their 24 losses. Statistically, Josh Latta leads Alabama Huntsville in all three scoring categories, being goals with seven, assists with 10 and total points with 17.
The Series At A Glance
Having faced earlier this season, the Falcons have won 26 of the 35 matchups against the Chargers since the first meeting in 2000. Earlier this season, the Falcons were 1-0-1 against Huntsville coming out of the weekend with five of the possible six points. During the Friday game, Bowling Green scored nine goals in under 24 minutes to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win 9-3. As for Saturday, the Falcons and Chargers went to the 3v3 period with the Orange and Brown netting the deciding goal. Over the course of the series, Alabama Huntsville has won back-to-back meetings just once, being at the front end of the 2000-01 season while BGSU holds the longest win streak at eight.Â
Last Time Out
Bowling Green is coming off their second consecutive home sweep, taking two from Ferris State, winning 6-1 and 3-1 on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21-22), respectively. On Friday, Cameron Wright paced the Falcons, scoring both the first and last goals for the Falcons with the second coming on the power play. Over the two games, 17 Falcons found their way onto the stat sheet for either a goal or an assist, including Max Johnson and Connor Ford both having three assists on the weekend.Â
Around The WCHA
As the regular season draws to a close, the WCHA standings have turned into a log jam in the middle of the conference. With Alaska and Michigan Tech off last weekend, Bowling Green shot up to a tie for fourth with Alaska and stand just four points behind Northern Michigan in third who split with Lake Superior State over the weekend. With Michigan Tech just two points behind the Falcons, only six points separate the third and sixth place teams in the standings, creating what could be a hectic final weekend of the regular season, featuring a home-and-home series between Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.
Hauser For Hobey
With another assist coming in the Friday game against Ferris State, Alec Rauhauser moved his career total to 118 points in the Orange and Brown. Currently tied with Steve Murphy for 54th all-time for career points, he needs one more point to tie fellow defensemen Brian McKee for 53rd. Additionally, Rauhauser has 90 career assists, nearing the century mark for assists alone. In program history, just 20 players have tallied 100 or more assists with the last being Curtis Fry and Kelly Perrault who did it in 1997. Perrault was also the last defensemen, and one of just five to do so.Â
Kruse Makes History
Scoring a goal on Saturday, Brandon Kruse notched career point 100 in the Orange and Brown becoming the 73rd player in program history to hit the century mark. With Alec Rauhauser reaching the milestone earlier this season, it marks the first time since 1995-96 that multiple Falcons reached 100 career points in the same season. In 1995-96 five Falcons did so, being Curtis Fry, Kelly Perrault, Mike Johnson, Mike Hall and Jason Clark. Since the 2000-01 season, just nine Falcons have reached 100 career points with three being in the last three seasons with Kruse, Rauhauser and Mitch McLain hitting the mark.
Two Wright To Be Wrong
Cameron Wright once again tallied multiple goals this past Friday (Feb. 21), scoring both the first and last goals of the night for the Falcons. To begin the season, Wright scored four goals against Miami for his other multiple goal game this year. The two scores put Wright's season total at 19 lamps lit, putting him just one goal shy of having the first 20-goal season in the Orange and Brown since 2007-08 when Derek Whitmore tallied 27. Max Johnson was close a year ago when he scored 19 times. With Wright's second goal also coming on the power play, he is now tied for fifth in the nation for power play goals with nine.Â
