The Falcons stayed undefeated winning the second game of the Rock-N-Roll Shootout at Gund Arena by a 91-86 count over Cleveland State. BG has now won 11 of its last 13 games dating back to February of last season and their 5-0 start is the best since the 1974-75 squad also started that season with five straight wins.
Bowling Green jumped out to an early advantage scoring nine of the first 11 points, and a little bit later in the first half 12 of 13 points in one stretch to take a 21-5 edge at the 13:34 mark. Keith McLeod, who would lead the team with 23 points on the night, scored 12 of his points in the opening stretch.
Eventually, BG built as much as an 18-point bulge at 34-16 at the 4:32 mark of the first half before settling for a 40-28 advantage at the break. BG shot 55.2% from the field in the first half.
In the second half, after CSU closed to within nine points at 42-33 at the 18:30 mark, BG would score 10 of the next 12 points, Trent Jackson has six of the BG points, to take a 52-35 lead with 15:30 left.
BG would get the lead to as much as 18 points (60-42) at the 11:52 mark, but the Vikings would not die.
CSU closed to within 10 points at 65-55 at the 9:08 mark after a 10-3 run, they would close to eight points at 73-65 at the 4:23 mark after an 8-1 run, and with 1:01 left BG led by 10 points, 86-76, but CSU had one last run left.
They scored the next five points to cut the gap to 86-81 with 47 seconds left, but BG would score the three points at the charity stripe to put the game away.
Anthony Stacey and Trent Jackson added 17 points apiece to go along with McLeod's best scoring night of the season. The Falcons shot 72.2% from the floor (13-of-18) in the second half, but were guilty of 12 turnovers, mostly against the Viking press which they utilized the last portion of the second half.
The game featured 60 fouls and 77 free throw attempts as four BG players fouled out and one CSU player.
