Falcons Look To Extend Win Streak Tuesday Against Akron At The Stroh

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will host the Akron Zips inside the Stroh Center on Tuesday (Jan. 10) for the team's third MAC contest of the season. The game between the Falcons and the Zips is set for a 7 p.m. tip and will be available to watch on ESPN+. Fans can tune in to the action via WFRO Eagle 99. Tuesday will mark the 73rd meeting all-time between Bowling Green and Akron. The all-time series leans to the Zips with a record of 44-28, but the series is knotted up at 16-16 when playing in Bowling Green. The last win for the Falcons in the series came on Feb. 26, 2021. Kaden Metheny tallied 15 points in the game while Chandler Turner added four points, three rebounds and two assists.
At The Game
Tuesday's game will be a White Out theme at the Stroh Center. Fans are encouraged to wear white with the Falcons. The first 800 students will also receive free pizza.Â

The last time out the Falcons moved to 2-0 within the Mid-American Conference with an 88-79 win over Ohio. The Falcons utilized an efficient 49.2% mark from the field to propel the offense while committing just five turnovers, the lowest mark in almost two years for the program. Kaden Metheny led the scoring with 25 while Sam Towns added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Â

Akron is coming off a 70-63 loss to Ball State on the road that moved the Zips to 1-1 within the MAC after topping Northern Illinois 76-51. Akron's Enrique Freeman was named the MAC Player of the Week as well, averaging 25.0 points and 14.5 rebounds over the two games. As for the season, Xavier Castaneda leads the way, averaging 19.5 points per game.Â
Falcons Finding The Open Shot
As a team, the Falcons have recorded 18 or more assists in six of the last seven games, holding a record of 5-1 in those six games. In games this season where Bowling Green has score 75 or more points, the Orange and Brown are averaging 18.8 assists per game. Over the season as a whole, BGSU is averaging 15.1 assists per game, which is second in the MAC behind only Toledo (15.3).Â

Over the four-game win streak, the Falcons have registered a shooting percentage of at least 49% in each game. BGSU shot a season-best 58.3% against Ohio Dominican to highlight the efficient stretch. Kaden Metheny has found his shot for the Falcons. Over the last three games, Metheny is averaging 18.7 points per game with two 20-point games. An efficient approach has been the backbone to Metheny's streak, shooting 53.8% (21-of-39) from the field and 50% (12-of-24) from three. The surge has moved Metheny into the Top 50 in the nation for three-point percentage (41.6%) and three-pointers per game (2.85).Â
Agee's MAC Block PartyÂ
In the first two MAC contests of the season, Rashaun Agee has a combined total of nine blocked shots for the Falcons. Against EMU, Agee tallied five blocked shots, joining only Daeqwon Plowden and Richaun Holmes as the only three Falcons with 5+ blocks since the 2014-15 year. Agee followed it up with four rejections against Ohio, tying for the MAC lead on the season.
