Falcons Host RedHawks Before Battle Of I-75, Senior Day

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons tennis team is slated to conclude the 2021-22 regular season with two home matches this weekend. The Falcons welcome Miami (OH) on Friday, April 22, before hosting Toledo for the Battle of I-75 on Sunday, April 24. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, with weather determining if the action is indoors or outdoors. Sunday will be Senior Day and the Meserve Cup, with Falcon senior Laura Maia Silveira being honored before the match.

Last Time Out
The Falcons played one match last weekend, falling to Buffalo on Friday (April 15). Hannah Neuman picked up the lone point for BGSU, earning a three-set win at No. 5 singles. The victory marked the third consecutive win for the sophomore.

Opponent Outlook: Miami (OH)
The RedHawks enter with a 12-10 overall record and 6-2 MAC record, tied with Toledo for second in the conference. They won their first six conference matches, including one over Bowling Green, before dropping their last two to Ball State and Toledo. Following their weekend that featured a win over the Falcons, Laura Rico and Brindtha Ramasamy earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week. Rico was also named MAC Singles Player of the Week. In their only match last weekend, the RedHawks were defeated by Toledo, 4-3. Miami earned the doubles point, with wins from the duos of Rico and Ramasamy, and Sarah Dev and Emilia Valentinsson. Valentinsson and Maya Ushio also earned singles victories.

The Falcons and RedHawks met earlier this season, with Miami taking a 6-1 victory on March 25. Bowling Green saw a victory at No. 1 singles from Ioanna Tsadari, who came from behind in both sets for a 7-5, 6-4 win. It was her second win of the MAC season and her current MAC record is a team-best 5-3. In doubles, the RedHawks took the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, but Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman led 5-4 at No. 2 before the match was finished before completion.

Last week, UT rebounded from their previous loss to Miami, defeating the RedHawks, 4-3. Teske and Shalini Tallamraju each won in singles to extend their win streaks to five matches, while Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski earned three-set victories. Toledo currently stands at 16-5 overall and 6-2 in the MAC, with their final home match of the season set for Friday (April 22) against Buffalo.
