Falcons Set To Start Busy Week With NIU Tuesday Night

DeKalb, Ill. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will take to the road for the first of three games this week, traveling to face Northern Illinois on Tuesday (Jan. 18). The game in DeKalb, Ill. is set for an 8:00 p.m. EST tip-off at the Convocation Center, marking the sixth MAC game of the season for BGSU. The game between the Falcons and Huskies will be available to stream on ESPN3. Fans can also tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. The meeting between Bowling Green and Northern Illinois will be the first of two this season between the teams and the 68th meeting all-time. The Falcons will enter having won the last four contests, including the last two to be held in DeKalb, Ill. The Huskies hold a slim advantage when hosting the series, being 17-12 against the Falcons inside the Convocation Center.Â

Halting The HuskiesÂ
Northern Illinois will enter the game against the Falcons riding a two-game winning streak, having topped Kent State, 65-63, and Eastern Michigan, 77-70. The Huskies first conference game saw them fall to Toledo, 94-63, bringing their record to 2-1 in MAC play. NIU is led by sophomore guard Keshawn Williams who is averaging 13.3 points per game. Williams is joined in the double-digit average by senior guard Trendon Hankerson with an average of 10.5 points per game.

Trey Diggs posted a career-night the last time out, hitting seven three-pointers in the first half against Toledo. With 21 first half points, Diggs registered the first 20-point half by a Falcon this season. The seven makes tied Diggs' career-high for a single-game and increased his season three-point percentage to 39.2%. That mark moved Diggs into the Top 75 for three-point field-goal percentage in the nation while leading the Mid-American Conference.Â
Taking Advantage Of The Free Throw LineÂ
Daeqwon Plowden has been on fire from the free throw line over the last eight games. Plowden has been perfect from the line in seven of the last eight contests, being a combined 24-of-26 over that span. The surge has increased his free throw percentage to 83.5% on the season while being 62nd in the nation for free throws made (66) and 83rd for free throws attempted (79).Â
BG Block Party
Against Toledo, the Falcons logged a season-high 10 blocks as a team. This marked the first time with double-digit blocks as a team since Nov. 15, 2014 when BGSU had 11 against Drake. Leading the charge was Daeqwon Plowden who tallied a career-high five rejections. Plowden is the first Falcon to have five blocks since Richaun Holmes had five against Buffalo on Feb. 21, 2015.Â
