KENT, Ohio. -- The best offense in the Mid-American Conference faced the league's best defense in Kent on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 22), and the best offense dominated play. The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team scored more goals against Kent State than the Golden Flashes had allowed in its first nine MAC games combined, as the Falcons toppled the MAC East champions 3-1. The win improves BGSU to 11-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in MAC play. More importantly, the victory clinches a home game for the Falcons in next weekend's MAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Chelsee Washington scored twice for the Falcons to lead their offensive effort. At the 36:59 mark, Alexis Fricke sent a diagonal pass into the box that Washington headed past Katie Kingsbury for the first goal. Kent State evened the game in the 61st minute, but the Falcon offense went back to work. In the 70th minute, Marissa Swindell sent a pass from the end line to the top of the six. Washington took the pass and fired a shot past Kingsbury for the game-winner. Erica Hubert added margin when she scored with just 4:20 left on the clock.
COACH SAYS...
BGSUÂ head coach Matt Fannon said, "We were excellent today. Every aspect of our game was on point, and we deserved the result."
NOTE OF THE DAY: CRACKING THE CODE
Kent State's defense has been spectacular over their last 13 games and particularly during their MAC schedule. After giving up two goals apiece in three of their first four games, Kent State had given up a total of three in their last 13 and only two in nine conference games. They entered today's contest with a scoreless streak of 505:09 and had pitched five straight shutouts. However, in a battle of the MAC's best offense versus the MAC's best defense, it was no contest. BGSU racked up 14 shots and nine shots on goal in just the first half and compiled 21 shots and 13 shots on goal in total, while their defense only permitted five shots and just two shots on goal. The Falcons were the first team all season to score three goals on KSU, and Chelsee Washington was the first to post two individual goals against the Golden Flashes in 2017.

UP NEXT
The Falcons conclude the regular season with the Battle of I-75. BGSU travels north to face the Toledo Rockets in the 2017 regular season finale at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. The Rockets are 8-7-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the MAC, and they broke a two-game losing streak today with a 2-1 victory at Ohio. Bowling Green has clinched a home game in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals, but this game will determine their tournament seeding. A win or tie would give BGSU the #3 seed, while a loss would place the Falcons as the #4 seed. For Toledo, a win would clinch the #3 seed and a home game in the quarterfinals. A tie or a loss would force the Rockets to rely on help to become a top-four seed.
