THE STARTING XI
I – The Falcons are 6-1-3 (.750), which is the best start in school history. Prior to this fall, the best 10-game start was 6-3-1 (.650) by the 1998 team. Six Falcon squads had a .600 winning percentage through 10 matches, including the 2001, '08, '16, '17, '18 and '24 squads. The 2025 season is the 29th in the history of the program, which began in 1997.
II – Head coach Chris Fox and Company will put an eight-match unbeaten streak – the third-longest such streak in program history – on the line in Sunday's match. BGSU is 5-0-3 since a 1-0 loss to Illinois on Aug. 17.
III – The Falcons are 1-0-2 in Mid-American Conference play, with a 2-1 win over Kent State (Sept. 14) and 1-1 draws against Ohio (Sept. 18) and defending MAC champion Western Michigan (Sept. 21). BGSU is one of just two teams without a loss in league action.
IV – Junior Emma Stransky scored both BGSU goals vs. KSU, for her first career brace. At Ohio, junior Gabby Lamparty headed home a free kick from classmate Emme Butera with just over seven minutes to go. Butera also had BG's lone assist vs. WMU, as her corner kick found junior Lexi White at the far post.
V – BGSU lost four matches in MAC play last year, falling to Ohio, WMU, KSU and Central Michigan. Those are the Falcons' first four opponents in league action this season. So far, BG has picked up five points in three matches vs. that group, after getting zero points against that quartet in 2024.
VI – Stransky leads the Falcons in scoring, with five goals and 10 points on the year. She scored the game-winning goal in back-to-back games, vs. Duquesne and KSU. Lamparty and sixth-year collegian Ellie Pool each have six points, while juniors Ella Kane and Isabella Mazzaferro each have five. All four players have two goals to date. Butera and sophomore Haley Wolf each have three assists.
VII – Sophomore Payton O'Malley has played every second in goal this season, and has 38 saves, a goals-against average of 0.70 and a save percentage of .844. She is second in the MAC in save pct. and third in GAA.
VIII – A total of 25 different players have seen action this season to date, with 19 Falcons having made at least one start. Five players – O'Malley, Pool, Emme Butera, Taylor Green and Gabby Lamparty – each have started all 10 games.
IX – BGSU finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 7-7-4 and a MAC ledger of 4-4-3. The Falcons finished in sixth place in the 12-team conference. BG went 4-1-3 at home and 3-6-1 on the road in 2024. Fox and his staff – first-year assistant coaches Steven Samuel and Kyle Pettican – have a total of 20 returning student-athletes. That group includes seven starters from a year ago. Six of the top-nine scorers from '24 returned.
X – Central Michigan is 0-7-2 overall, and the Chippewas are 0-1-2 in MAC play. After seven-straight shutout losses to begin the season, CMU has played back-to-back 1-1 draws vs. Ball State and Toledo. Melaina Troy and Jimena Perez Ayala each have one goal on the season. Brylee Borgman has started six games in goal and has 33 saves and a 1.27 GAA of just 1.14. Last season, coach Jeremy Groves and the Chippewas went 5-8-5 overall and 3-4-4 in MAC play.
XI – The Falcons trail Central Michigan, 15-12-2, in the all-time series, but BGSU had won seven series meetings before the Chippewas dealt the Falcons a 2-1 setback last season in Mount Pleasant (Oct. 18, 2024). The last meeting at Cochrane saw the Falcons pick up a 5-1 victory two years ago (Oct. 19, 2023). After BGSU went 5-3-2 in the first 10 meetings, Central proceeded to win 11-straight meetings from 2006-16. Then, the Falcons won seven in a row, outscoring the Chippewas by a 21-6 count in those seven matches. All told, BGSU is 5-7-1 in home games, 6-8-0 in road games and 1-0-1 in neutral-site matches vs. the Chippewas through the years.
XII (off the bench) – The 2025 and 2026 MAC Women's Soccer Championships each will take place at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. This will mark the first time in conference history that the event will be held at a neutral site.
