Falcons Ready for the Rocket Classic on Oct. 13-14

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will look to end their 2014 fall season on a high note this week at the 2014 Rocket Classic hosted by the University of Toledo at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio on Oct. 13-14.
The 2014 Rocket Classic is a two-day, 54-hole stroke play event, which will be played at the par 72, 5,884-yards Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. The first and second rounds of play will be held on Monday, Oct. 13, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The final round of play will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 with a double tee start on holes 1 and 10 at 8:30 a.m.
This year's tournament field is comprised up of 13 teams in Akron, Bowling Green, Bucknell, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Detroit, IUPUI, Loyola (Ill.), Ohio, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Western Illinois and Toledo.
The BGSU lineup for head coach Stephanie Young this week includes Shelby Wilson, Mikayla Baer, Lily Bartell, Patricia Holt and Hannah Lewis, all of which have competed in at least four events for the Falcons this year.
Both Fran Rodriguez and Madelynn Swank will play as individuals at the two-day event.
The Falcons are coming off a rain-shortened Bearcat Classic, in which the team was only able to complete one round of play for the two-day event and finished in fourth-place overall.
Wilson has been the top-BGSU performer in each of the last two events for the Falcons, having posting back-to-back fourth-place individual finishes over those two tournaments. The senior is coming off a round of 74, +2, in the lone completed round of the Bearcat Classic and two straight rounds of 77, +5, at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. Wilson leads the team with a stroke average of 77.38 on the year.
Baer has posted a stroke average of 79.00 over four events thus far this season and is coming off a round of 79, +7, at the rainy Bearcat Classic last week, while Bartell will look to continue here progress this fall as she has finished higher in each event since the season opener at the Redbird Invitational. Bartell is coming off a round of 78, +6, at the Bearcat Classic, and has carded a low round 76, +4, on the year.
BGSU's Holt, who is playing in her fifth event for the Falcons this fall season, will look to bounce back from her 71st-place finish at the Bearcat Classic with her 18-hole score of 85, +13, in what was rainy and inclement weather throughout the day. Prior to her last round of play, Holt had carded rounds of 77, 75, 77 and 79, to post a top-15 finish at the Cardinal Classic and a seventh-place showing at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational.
Lewis will wrap up the lineup for the Falcons, as the junior has carded two rounds of 72, even par, both of which have been the lowest rounds for a Falcon so far this fall season. Having posted a round of 79, +7, at the Bearcat Classic last time out, Lewis' scoring average on the season sits at 78.50 heading into the Rocket Classic this week.
As individuals at the 54-hole event, Rodriguez will be competing in her fifth tournament this fall season, while Swank will be playing in her third event on the year. Rodriguez is second on the team with a 77.83 stroke average on the season and has carded low rounds of 73 and 74 thus far this year. Swank, who took first-place overall in her first-ever intercollegiate event at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial on Sept. 14, has turned in rounds of 75, 83 and 83 over her three rounds of play on the season.
Last season, the Falcons finished in second-place overall in the team standings with a 54-hole team score of 926, +62. BGSU finished 35 strokes behind Toledo who won the event with a team low combined score of 891, +27.
Both Wilson and Holt finished in a tie for 10th-place overall at the 2013 Rocket Classic a year ago with matching 54-hole scores of 232, +16, while Bartell finished in a tie for 14th-place overall with her three-round combined score of 233, +17.
