Falcons Move Up In Standings At MAC Championships

FISHERS, Ind. -- The Bowling Green State University women's golf team improved to eighth place and gave themselves an opportunity to move even higher as they completed the second round of the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday (April 28). The 54-hole tournament is being held in Fishers, Ind. at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.

As a team, the Falcons shot 334 on Saturday, which was two shots better than their Friday score (336). The score allowed BGSU to move past Northern Illinois in the tournament standings, despite chilly and rainy weather conditions that persisted throughout the round.

BGSU's two-round total of 670 is four shots better than the Huskies' 674. The Orange and Brown trail Ohio University for seventh place by seven shots. Western Michigan is in sixth place, 25 shots ahead of the Falcons.

Kent State leads the field by five strokes and seeks its 14th consecutive championship. KSU is the only team to ever win the MAC women's golf tournament.

Shelby Wilson again led BGSU golfers; on Saturday, she carded an 81 for a 36-hole total of 163 (82-81). She is tied for 27th place and will enter the final round four shots outside of the top 20.

Kelsey Benson posted an 84 on Saturday and owns a 167 after her 83 on Friday. Bailey Arnold finished the day with a 36-hole total of 168 (85-83).

Patricia Holt (172; 86-86) and Paula DiFrancesco (173; 87-86) also competed for BGSU.

The final round of the MAC Championships will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (April 29). The Falcons will join Northern Illinois and Ohio in the first five groups to tee off. DiFrancesco starts at 8:30, with Holt, Arnold, Benson and Wilson following her in ten-minute intervals.
