Falcons Honor Mickey Cochrane, Recognize 1995 Championship Team During Alumni Weekend
September 27, 2025 | Men's Soccer
Despite BGSU men's soccer's (3-4-1, 0-1-0) 3-0 loss to Evansville (3-2-5, 1-0-0), the Falcons celebrated with a plethora of festivities before kick-off. Including honoring the first head coach in program history, Mickey Cochrane, on his induction to the OCSA Hall of Fame.
"The tradition stems from one person, and it's Mickey Cochrane," said head coach Eric Nichols."The first time I got here and started meeting along the way, they would talk about Mickey. I've never heard people talk about another person like that. So once I met him, I understood why. He's an amazing man. He has a huge, huge legacy that he's left along down to the players and play today, and they know who he is and they play in his honor."
Cochrane, who was a pioneer in helping the men's soccer program, received his sixth Hall of Fame induction on Friday night.

In 1989, Cochrane received the OCSA's prestigious Honor Award, and just four years later, he was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame. His achievements also earned him a place in the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame.
The Falcons also honored the 1995 championship team that won the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Going 15-3-2 during that season before losing to Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
"Awesome to have those guys back," said junior midfielder Andrew Shaffer. "Some really successful players from the past. So, it's always great to get them back, get some perspective from them, some guys who have won some championships."
While it wasn't the result Bowling Green wanted, the night surrounding the match wasÂ
"Special night for sure," said Nichols. "Incredible to see the guys and looking forward to seeing them later tonight. Some of the guys that played for me, but then guys that came back from the 1995 championship team, and then all the way back, we got guys from the '60s. This is a special program. A lot of tradition, a lot of special people involved."
Falcons will host Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Cochrane Stadium. Falcon Media Sports Network's Lucas Kleimeyer and Tyler Kavalecz will have the call on WBGU-PBS YouTube channel starting at 7:00 p.m.
