Falcons Fall To Miami (OH) In Weekend Finale

Otten Leads Way With 15 Assists, 8 Digs
OXFORD, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team wrapped up the weekend series against Miami (OH) on Saturday (Nov. 1) with a 3-0 finish against the RedHawks. Bowling Green came out strong in the first set, but Miami worked to tie it up before moving ahead later in the set. The momentum for the RedHawks carried into the second and third sets as well for the 3-0 final score. The loss moves Bowling Green to an even .500 on the season and in MAC play, being 13-13 on the year and 7-7 within the Mid-American Conference.

How It Happened
Set 1: Miami (OH) 25, Bowling Green 20
- The Falcons tallied the first point of the match, starting off with a 6-1 run for the Orange and Brown, including a 5-0 burst to force an early timeout from the RedHawks.
- Miami (OH) went back to work after the timeout with a point, but Jessica Andrews quickly responded for the Falcons, beginning a back-and-forth between the teams.
- The RedHawks continued to chip away at the deficit, working to tie it up at 11-11 in the set. Miami was able to move in front with a 12-11 score, rolling into a 15-12 advantage to force a BGSU timeout.
- The run for Miami carried through the timeout, reaching 6-0 for a 19-12 lead. The Falcons answered back with a 4-0 run to narrow the gap to 19-16.
- The Falcons kept the run going after the timeout, reaching a 5-0 stretch for a 19-17 score. Miami fought back with a 4-1 stretch to push the score to 23-18 with a RedHawk timeout.
- The teams traded points through the end of the set with Miami taking the 25-20 score.
Set 2: Miami (OH) 25, Bowling Green 14
- The second set began back-and-forth between the teams, including a solo block by Helen Wilford, for a 4-4 score early.
- Miami created the first multi-point lead of the set, utilizing a 4-1 stretch to move out to an 8-5 lead in the set. Back-to-back BGSU points, including a Kendall Williams ace, closed the gap back to one, 8-7.
- Miami extended their lead, but consecutive points for Bowling Green narrowed the score back to one, 11-10. A similar sequence followed with the Miami lead moving to 15-12 with the media timeout.
- After the media timeout, the RedHawks added two tallies for a 17-12 lead to force a BGSU timeout. Each team tallied a point after the break, but Miami put together a 3-0 run to move the score to 21-13 with the second BGSU timeout of the set.
- The RedHawk run carried through the break, reaching a 5-0 run with a 23-13 score. The Falcons tallied a point, but Miami closed out the set, 25-14.
Set 3: Miami (OH) 25, Bowling Green 7
- Miami started the third set with a 4-0 run before the first Bowling Green tally of the set. The stretch extended to 6-1 with a Bowling Green timeout.
- After the timeout, the run continued for the RedHawks, reaching 8-1. The teams traded a few points, but another Miami run pushed the score to 12-3 with the second BGSU timeout.
- The Falcons landed the first point out of the timeout to begin a back-and-forth to a 13-5 score, but an 8-0 run for Miami created a 21-5 tally.
- Bowling Green was able to register a pair of points for a 21-7 score. The RedHawks responded with a 4-0 run for the set and match finish.

- Jessica Andrews paced the BGSU attack with seven kills. Kendall Williams followed closely with six kills, matching her career high, and the lone Falcon ace of the match.
- Helen Wilford registered a team-high three blocks in the match, including one solo. Wilford now has a team-high 10 solo blocks this season.
