THE STARTING XI
I – The Falcons are 7-1-4 (.750), which is the best start in school history. Prior to this fall, the best winning percentage through 12 games was .667, set in 2001 and matched in 2018. Both of those clubs went 7-3-2 to begin the year. The 2025 season is the 29th in the history of the program, which began in 1997.
II – Head coach Chris Fox and Company will put a 10-match unbeaten streak – tied for the second-longest such streak in program history – on the line in Sunday's match. BGSU is 6-0-4 since a 1-0 loss to Illinois on Aug. 17.
III – The Falcons are 2-0-3 in Mid-American Conference play, including a 2-1 win over Kent State (Sept. 14) and 1-1 draws against Ohio (Sept. 18) and defending MAC champion Western Michigan (Sept. 21). BGSU is one of just two teams without a loss in league action.
IV – Most recently, the Falcons posted a convincing 4-0 victory over Central Michigan last Sunday (Sept. 28), before battling Toledo to a scoreless draw Thursday night (Oct. 2). Junior Lizzie Bultynck had a five-point game against CMU, including a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, while classmate Emma Stransky and redshirt sophomore Audrey Oliver each scored as well.
V – BGSU lost four matches in MAC play last year, falling to Ohio, WMU, KSU and CMU. Those were the Falcons' first four opponents in league action this season. BG picked up eight points in the four matches vs. that group, after getting zero points against that quartet in 2024.
VI – Stransky leads the Falcons in scoring, with six goals and 12 points on the year. She scored the game-winning goal in three of BGSU's September wins, vs. Duquesne, KSU and CMU. Junior Gabby Lamparty and sixth-year collegian Ellie Pool each have seven points, while Bultynck and fellow juniors Ella Kane and Isabella Mazzaferro each have five. All five of those player have two goals to date. Another junior, Emme Butera, has a team-high four assists.
VII – Sophomore Payton O'Malley has started all 12 matches in goal this season, and has 42 saves, a goals-against average of 0.59 and a save percentage of .857. She leads the MAC in save pct. and is second in GAA.
VIII – A total of 26 different players have seen action this season to date, with 20 Falcons having made at least one start. Four players – Butera, Lamparty, O'Malley and Pool – each have started all 12 games.
IX – The Falcons have matched the win total for all of last season. BGSU finished the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 7-7-4 and a MAC ledger of 4-4-3. The Falcons finished sixth in the 12-team league. BG went 4-1-3 at home and 3-6-1 on the road in 2024. Fox and his staff – first-year assistant coaches Steven Samuel and Kyle Pettican – have a total of 20 returning student-athletes on this year's roster, including seven starters from a year ago. Six of the top-nine scorers from '24 returned.
X – Eastern Michigan is 4-5-2 overall, and the Eagles are off to a 2-1-2 start in MAC play. EMU has defeated Buffalo and Toledo, drawn with Ohio and Kent State and lost to Miami in conference action to date. Most recently, the Eagles played KSU to a 1-1 tie as goalkeeper Ella Holland tied the MAC record with 20 saves. Olivia Sipsock leads the club with three goals and seven points, while Kaylee Synk has two goals on the season. Holland has played every second in goal and now has 58 saves, three shutouts and a 1.09 GAA. Last season, head coach Taylor Clarke (a former BGSU assistant) and the Eagles went 7-6-5 overall and 3-3-5 in MAC action.
XI – The Falcons and EMU are tied, 15-15-3, in the all-time series, but BGSU is unbeaten in the last eight meetings (6-0-2). Last season, the teams battled to a nil-nil draw at Cochrane Stadium (Oct. 24, 2024), with Payton O'Malley picking up the shutout for the Falcons. The teams' last meeting in Ypsilanti came three years ago (Oct. 23, 2022), with the Falcons posting a 7-1 victory.
