SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, off to the best start in program history, begins the October portion of the schedule with a pair of short road trips. Head coach Chris Fox and the Falcons face the University of Toledo in a Mid-American Conference matchup on Thursday night (Oct. 2). First touch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Paul Hotmer Field.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will head to Ypsilanti for a Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5) meeting with Eastern Michigan University. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
A SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER
• BGSU went 4-0-2 in the month of September. It marks the program's first undefeated month since the 2005 team rolled through October with an 8-0-0 record.
WHERE TO WATCH
• Thursday's Toledo tilt will be televised on BCSN in the Toledo area, and also will be streamed via the BCSN+ app as well as ESPN+.
• Sunday's EMU meeting will be streamed via ESPN+.

THE STARTING XI
I – The Falcons are 7-1-3 (.773), which is the best start in school history. Prior to this fall, the best 11-game percentage was .636, by five different teams including the 2001, '08, '17, '18 and '24 squads. The 2025 season is the 29th in the history of the program, which began in 1997.
II – Head coach Chris Fox and Company will put a nine-match unbeaten streak – the third-longest such streak in program history – on the line in Thursday's match. BGSU is 6-0-3 since a 1-0 loss to Illinois on Aug. 17.
III – The Falcons are 2-0-2 in Mid-American Conference play, including a 2-1 win over Kent State (Sept. 14) and 1-1 draws against Ohio (Sept. 18) and defending MAC champion Western Michigan (Sept. 21). BGSU is one of just two teams without a loss in league action.
IV – Most recently, the Falcons posted a convincing 4-0 victory over Central Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 28). Junior Lizzie Bultynck had a five-point game, including a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, while classmate Emma Stransky and redshirt sophomore Audrey Oliver each scored as well.
V – BGSU lost four matches in MAC play last year, falling to Ohio, WMU, KSU and CMU. Those were the Falcons' first four opponents in league action this season. BG picked up eight points in the four matches vs. that group, after getting zero points against that quartet in 2024.
VI – Stransky leads the Falcons in scoring, with six goals and 12 points on the year. She scored the game-winning goal in three of BGSU's September wins, vs. Duquesne, KSU and CMU. Junior Gabby Lamparty and sixth-year collegian Ellie Pool each have seven points, while Bultynck and fellow juniors Ella Kane and Isabella Mazzaferro each have five. All five of those player have two goals to date. Another junior, Emme Butera, has a team-high four assists.
VII – Sophomore Payton O'Malley has started all 11 matches in goal this season, and has 39 saves, a goals-against average of 0.64 and a save percentage of .848. She leads the MAC in save pct. and is second in GAA.
VIII – A total of 26 different players have seen action this season to date, with 20 Falcons having made at least one start. Four players – Butera, Lamparty, O'Malley and Pool – each have started all 11 games.
IX – The Falcons have matched the win total for all of last season. BGSU finished the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 7-7-4 and a MAC ledger of 4-4-3. The Falcons finished sixth in the 12-team league. BG went 4-1-3 at home and 3-6-1 on the road in 2024. Fox and his staff – first-year assistant coaches Steven Samuel and Kyle Pettican – have a total of 20 returning student-athletes, including seven starters from a year ago. Six of the top-nine scorers from '24 returned.
X – Toledo is 3-3-4 overall, and the Rockets are 0-2-2 in MAC play. UT has tied Northern Illinois and CMU while falling to Eastern Michigan and WMU in conference action. Morgan Spitler leads the club with four goals and eight points, while Kaema Amachree has a pair of goals this fall. Agnes Stenlund has started all 10 games in goal and has 41 saves, two shutouts and a 1.21 GAA. Last season, coach Mark Batman's Rockets went 6-7-5 overall and 3-4-4 in MAC play.
XI – The Falcons trail Toledo, 15-12-5, in the all-time series, but BGSU is unbeaten in the last six meetings (5-0-1). Last season, the Falcons rallied from a halftime deficit for a 2-1 victory at Cochrane Stadium (Sept. 22, 2024). Two years ago, in the teams' last meeting in the Glass City, the Orange and Brown picked up a 2-0 victory (Sept. 21, 2023. BGSU is 4-7-4 in home games, 8-7-0 in road games and 0-1-1 in neutral-site matches vs. the Rockets through the years.
