What To Watch For
History Ends As Last Team Standing
The Falcons historic start to both MAC play and at home closed on Sunday (April 21). The Falcons 17-0 record marked the best start in MAC play in conference history and the second-best MAC start in BGSU Athletics history behind only volleyball's 18-0 start in 2020-21. Additionally, the Falcons tallied a 10-0 start at home for the first time in program history. Entering Sunday, BGSU was one of two teams in the nation still unbeaten in conference play, joined by the MAAC's Niagara. Niagara also lost on Sunday, but went final before BGSU, leaving the Falcons as the nation's final unbeaten team in conference play.
Rare Company
The Falcons are one of just 11 teams in the nation currently to be in the Top 26 for batting average (21st), on-base percentage (13th) and slugging percentage (26th). So far this season, the Falcons have produced a slash line of .312/.430/.522 through the first 34 games of the season. In addition to being inside the Top 26 in the nation, the Falcons currently lead the Mid-American Conference in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage and rank second in batting average behind only Western Michigan (17th in the nation, .314).
Walking Into The Record Book
The Falcons are closing in on the record book in the walks category in three different ways. As a team, BGSU has drawn 212 walks this season, 41 shy of matching the program record of 253 set in 1978. Of those 212 walks, Leighton Banjoff has drawn 32. He needs 38 to break into the Top 10 all-time for single season walks. As for career marks, Jack Krause has 89 walks as a Falcon, needing 94 to enter the Top 10 all-time for career walks drawn.
Archer Making History
Nathan Archer has already entered the BGSU record book three times this season and is closing in on doing it three more times. Archer's 31 career home runs are currently tied for eighth all-time, his nine career triples are tied for ninth all-time and his 14 home runs this season are tied for 10th all-time. For career stats, Archer has 302 total bases as a Falcon, needing 319 total, 17 more, to break into the top 10 all-time. As for the single-season records, Archer is closing in on two. This season he has 48 runs scored, needing four more to reach 52 and enter the top 10. He has also logged 44 RBI this season, sitting 10 shy of reaching the needed 54 RBI to enter the top 10 for the stat.
