Falcons, Zips Set To Begin April Schedule At Steller Field This Weekend
March 31, 2022 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program will return home to Steller Field this weekend for four games against the Akron Zips. BGSU will host Akron on Friday (April 1) to begin the series with a doubleheader on Saturday before the series concludes Sunday. The series will mark the first games in the month of April for the Falcons as they look to start April the same way they closed out March earlier this week.
The last action for the Falcons was a midweek clash in East Lansing with the Michigan State Spartans. It was a landmark occasion for BGSU, as the Falcons came out with a comfortable 12-3 victory. The win marked the first for Bowling Green against a Power 5 opponent since 2014, when the Orange and Brown got the best of the Michigan Wolverines. The Falcons have now scored 32 runs over the last three games, being 2-1 over that stretch.
Each game's action this weekend can be followed through Live Stats, found at BGSUFalcons.com, as well as live updates via Twitter (@BGSU_Baseball). Sunday's game will be broadcasted live on BCSN as well as the BCSN Now app.

Scouting The Zips
Akron holds a 7-15 overall record entering the weekend, but that doesn't quite tell the whole story. While they did get off to a slow start this season, they have gone 5-7 in MAC play so far. They also come into this series on the back of a midweek win, coming in a home game against Shawnee State. The last MAC action for the Zips came against Eastern Michigan. Akron tallied at least five runs in each game, but gave up 41 runs in those four games to go 1-3 over the course of the series.
Against Akron All-Time
While only meeting for the first time in 1983, the Falcons and Zips have already gone at it 75 times on the diamond. BGSU leads the all-time series, with a 45-30 record. That first meeting happened as part of the BGSU Spring Trip, and the Falcons ran out 4-0 victors. Last season was another four-game series between these two, with the Falcons going 3-1 behind stellar pitching performances.
Current Streaks
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off a huge win, taking down Big Ten giant Michigan State by a score of 12-3 on Tuesday, March 29. The Orange and Brown saw a hot start, putting up a four-run first inning. Standout performers for the Falcons included Adam Furnas, whose streak of three-hit games went up to three with this outing. In fact, all Falcons with at least one at-bat in this game had at least one hit, including five multi-hit performances. The Falcons' pitching was more than enough to keep the lead intact as well, with Peyton Wilson and Jeremy Spezia combining to pitch all nine innings, giving up just five hits and three runs between them.
