Barber's Golden Goal Gives Falcons Extra CCHA Point

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bowling Green Falcons (11-8-3, 8-5-1-1) defeated the St. Thomas Tommies (1-21-0, 1-15-0) in overtime by a score of 2-1. The Tommies scored in the first period to take an early lead, but the Falcons responded with a power play goal by Nathan Burke. The game remained tied at the end of regulation, but Alex Barber scored the golden goal to give BGSU the win just 14 seconds into overtime.

Scoring Plays
- St. Thomas was on the board first, scoring less than two minutes into the opening frame. Matthew Jennings knocked in the puck from the left side after a feed from Cameron Recchi. Recchi and Logan Ommen earned the assists.
- Bowling Green tied the game early in the second period with Nathan Burke's power play goal. Less than 15 seconds into the power play, Burke redirected Austen Swankler's shot to even the score. Swankler and Alex Barber were credited with the assists.
- Alex Barber obtained the puck after the overtime faceoff and skated through the Tommies' defense, slotting his shot for a golden goal victory.
- Alex Barber notched a goal and assist, marking his seventh multi-point performance of the season and team-best 18th multi-point effort of his career. Barber's golden goal was his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season.
- Barber has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points this season. In his career, the captain has 34 goals and 47 assists for 81 points.
- Nathan Burke extended his team lead in goals to 13, scoring the Falcons' first goal for the second consecutive night. Burke leads the Falcons with five power play goals this season.
- Austen Swankler tallied his team-best 15th assist of the season, giving him a team-high 22 points.
- Zack Rose made his first start since Dec. 10, 2021. The junior spent the entire game in net and made 15 saves.
- Sam Craggs played in the 166th game of his BGSU career, moving him into seventh place on the all-time list. He trails Joe Quinn by one game and Todd Flichel by four games.
