MATT FANNON INTERVIEW (Oct. 2, 2019)
FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• The Falcons open the road portion of the MAC schedule this weekend. Last year, BGSU went 4-1-0 in MAC road matches. The total of four conference road wins was the team's highest since the 2005 team won five MAC matchups away from home.
• In 2017, Matt Fannon's first season as BGSU head coach, the Falcons went 3-3-1 in true road games against MAC schools. BG won three MAC matches away from home in that '17 season after posting a total of three conference road wins in the previous five seasons combined (2012-16).
• BGSU is a combined 7-4-1 on the road in MAC games over Fannon's first two seasons. In the nine years prior to his arrival (2008-16), the Falcons won a total of six MAC matchups away from home.
• In fact, after winning two conference road contests in 2008, BGSU went 4-36-5 on the road in the MAC over the next eight years (2009-16). The Falcons have nearly doubled that total in Fannon's first two years.
• In last season's five MAC road matches, BGSU outscored the opposition, 13-2. Erica Hubert tripled the output of all five BG opponents combined, with six goals in the five MAC road matches. Chelsee Washington (three goals) also singlehandedly outscored Falcon foes on the road last year, while Nikki Cox (two goals) matched the opponent goal total.

THE OPPONENTS
• Kent State enters Friday's BGSU match with an overall record of 3-4-2, and the Golden Flashes are 1-0-1 in MAC play. KSU is riding a three-match unbeaten streak. The Flashes overcame a three-goal deficit for a 3-3 tie at Wetsern Michigan in the MAC opener, before downing Northern Illinois, 1-0, on Sunday. KSU is 1-1-1 at home and 2-3-1 on the road this year to date. Karly Hellstrom has team-leading totals of three goals and eight points, while Cameron Shedenhelm has seven points, including three assists. Faith O'Neill has played every second in goal and has 33 saves and a 1.16 goals-against average. Coach Rob Marinaro's team was picked to finish third in the MAC in the league's preseason coaches poll. Last year, KSU went 10-8-2 overall and 6-4-1 in the conference.
• Ohio is 6-3-0 on the year, and the Bobcats are 1-1-0 in the MAC heading into a Friday match vs. Toledo. Last weekend, OU split a pair of one-goal outcomes on the road, defeating NIU (2-1) before falling to WMU (1-0). Abby Townsend leads the team with 10 points, including six assists, while Alivia Milesky and Maddie Young each have eight points. Milesky and Young are tied for the Ohio lead with three goals each. Sydney Malham has played in nine of the team's 10 matches in goal and has 32 saves and a 1.80 GAA. The 'Cats – 3-1-0 at home and 3-3-0 on the road – were picked to finish fifth in the MAC in 2019. Last year, coach Aaron Rodgers and the Bobcats went 9-8-3 overall and 6-3-2 in the conference.
THE SERIES
• BGSU leads Kent State, 14-7-5, in the all-time series between the teams, and the Falcons have captured the last three meetings. Last season, BGSU picked up a 3-1 win on a rainy October night at Cochrane Stadium. Two years ago, the Falcons won a pair of last year's meetings on the road, with a 3-1 regular-season win and a 2-1 victory in the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament. BGSU is 7-2-5 in home matches and 7-5-0 on the road vs. KSU through the years.
• The Falcons trail Ohio, 12-6-5, in the all-time series, but BGSU has a four-match series unbeaten streak vs. the Bobcats, including a pair of victories at Cochrane last fall. BG picked up a 3-1 victory in the teams' 2018 regular-season meeting, and a 1-0 win in the MAC Tournament's semifinal round. BG is 6-5-2 at home and just 0-7-3 on the road vs. the 'Cats. The Falcons have scored fewer goals against Ohio (17) than against any other MAC team, and BGSU's average of 0.74 goals per game vs. the Bobcats is the team's lowest against any conference foe.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the Ohio match, the Falcons will return home for three of the next four matches. BGSU will face Central Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 10, with first touch set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
