Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will continue its 2015 spring season this week at the 2015 Lone Star Invitational hosted by UT-San Antonio on Mar. 23-24 in San Antonio, Texas.
The two-day event will be played at the par 72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. The 15-team field which includes UT-San Antonio, Bowling Green, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico State, North Texas, Ohio State, Rice, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, Texas Tech, UT-Arlington and UTEP will play 36 holes on Monday, Mar. 23, and then the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Mar. 24.
After over a month away from competition, as the Falcons last competed at the Barona Collegiate Cup on Feb. 9-10, head coach Kevin Farrell is sending out a familiar lineup in Jose Narro, Brett Rinker, Ryan Triller, Joe Cooper and Cameron Michalak to represent the Orange and Brown.
Both Narro and Rinker are coming off matching 54-hole scores of 218, +2, last time out at the Barona Collegiate Cup in which the sophomores finished in a tie for 29th-place overall. Narro posted rounds of 69, 80 and 69, and totaled 12 birdies and 30 pars over his 54-holes of play, while Rinker carded rounds of 74, 72 and another round of 72, even par, on the final round of play, finishing the two-day event with a total of 11 birdies and 32 pars overall.
Both Narro and Rinker will enter the Lone Star Invitational ranked in the top-10 overall in the MAC in season stroke average.
Senior Ryan Triller will look to continue his strong play after posting a final round of 73, +1, at the Barona Collegiate Cup in February. The Falcon co-captain registered rounds of 77, 78 and 73 en route to a three-round combined score of 228, +12, at the San Diego State University event.
Like Triller, Cooper will also look to build on a strong final round last time out. The lefty posted a season-low round 70, -2 under par, in the first round of play at the Barona Collegiate Cup and then shot a third round 72, even par, to conclude the event. The senior will look to put three solid rounds together for the Falcons this week.
Michalak will look to rebound from a 54-hole score of 233, +17, at the Barona Collegiate Cup last time out, as the freshman carded rounds of 73, 79 and 81 over the two-days of play. The first year Falcon has posted a season-low round 71 twice this year and will be teeing-off for BGSU in his seventh event this year.
Play will begin on both days with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
