*The Falcons will hit the road to begin a four-game road trip on Friday, traveling to Mount Pleasant this weekend and Ann Arbor next Tuesday.

*This past Saturday's game served as Danny Schmitz's 600th game against Mid-American Conference competition. Schmitz has compiled 304 MAC wins, good for third all-time.
Scouting The Chippewas
Central Michigan enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-12, and a mark of just 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Central Michigan traveled to Buffalo to start MAC play last weekend, falling in 2-of-3 against the Bulls.
The Chippewas are coached by Steve Jaksa, who is in his 11th season as the skipper. He currently holds a career record of 338-266-1 at CMU. Jaksa previously served as an assistant coach at Central Michigan from 1999-02 before being named the head coach.
CMU is led by brothers Logan and Nick Regnier, both from Novi, Mich. Logan, a freshman outfielder, currently leads the team with a batting average of .321. Nick, a sophomore outfielder, has an average of .308. As a team, Central Michigan bats .240.
Jordan Foley is the ace of the staff, expected to take the mound for Friday's matchup. Foley is 4-0 on the season, with an ERA of 0.89. As a team, the Chippewas have an ERA of 4.40.
The Series
Friday's contest will be the 103rd all-time meeting between the two schools, with Central Michigan holding a 62-39-1 advantage in the series. Friday's game will be the 30th all-time matchup between Schmitz and Jaksa, with CMU holding the advantage, 17-12.
Last Time Out
Both teams had midweek games snowed out during the past week, as Bowling Green was canceled at Wright State, while CMU and Michigan State had to cancel their matchup.
Last weekend, the Falcons were swept to begin MAC play by Western Michigan. On Friday, WMU outscored the Falcons 13-3 over the final eight innings, winning 13-6. The Falcons were behind 4-0 after half an inning in the first game on Saturday, eventually losing 4-3. In the second game of that doubleheader, BGSU was again defeated 4-3.
18 Straight
Redshirt junior Mike Frank set down 18 straight hitters at one point during Saturday's 4-3 loss to Western Michigan, not allowing a base runner between a fielder's choice in the first with one out, and a hit-by-pitch in the seventh inning with one out.
Eyeing The MAC
While Bowling Green was swept during the first weekend of MAC play, they stack up favorably amongst MAC competition in the main statistical categories. BGSU ranks 7th in batting average (.249), while CMU ranks 9th (.241). In ERA, the two teams are evently matched. The Falcons have an ERA of 4.27 (3rd) while CMU has an Earned Run Average of 4.40 (4th)
10-Plus
Bowling Green has yet to score 10 runs in a game during the first 19 games of 2013. In the past, it has been a successful formula to winning games, as they went 5-1 when scoring at least 10 runs in 2012.
Seven Inning Game?
The key to sucess in 2013 for the Falcons has rested in the hands of the first seven innings this season. When the Falcons hold a lead after seven innings, they haven't lost this year (3-0). But, when the Falcons trail after the seventh inning, they are 0-13 on the year.
Tough Luck
The Falcons' starting pitching has been dominant at times thus far, having allowed one earned run or less in 8-of-19 starts. In those games, the team is just 2-6, however. Friday starter Cody Apthorpe has twice allowed zero earned runs in a start, the team compiling just a 1-1 record in those games. Saturday starter Mike Frank (1-2 in such games) and Sunday starter Trevor Blaylock (0-3 in such games) have allowed only one earned run in three different starts each.
Defense Improving
During the first 12 games of the season, the Falcon defense committed 37 errors (3.08/game). Since then, the defense has committed just nine errors over the last seven games (1.29/game). Those 46 errors committed this season have led to 46 unearned runs.
Déjà vu
The beginning of the MAC season has started off much like a season ago, with the Falcons being swept by Western Michigan. Last season, the Falcons went to Kalamazoo and got swept by the Broncos, before returning home to play a series with Central Michigan. This year, the Falcons were swept at home, and will now travel to Mount Pleasant for a series with CMU on the road.
