Falcons sweep doubles point, then capture four singles matches

With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-1 on the season, and BGSU has now posted a double-digit winning streak since a road loss against No. 19 Notre Dame on Jan. 18. BG is a perfect 8-0 at home, and Saturday's win wrapped up a 7-0 homestand at the PTC.
BG captured the doubles point for the 10th match in a row, sweeping all three contests for the sixth time in that 10-match span. At the third flight, seniors Mary Hill and Jade Johnson lost just one game in a win over Butler's duo of Sienna Reuter and Laura Shull.
Falcon juniors Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland defeated Caroline Hedrick and Brittany Farmer, 8-2, in top-flight action. The second flight saw seniors Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb come away with an 8-5 win over the Bulldogs' Konstantina Adami and Stephanie McLoughlin.
For Eccleston, the win was the 88th doubles victory of her BGSU career. She is just one doubles win shy of tying the school record of 89, held by Christine Chiricosta (2008-11).
In a doubles match that did not count in the final scoring, Falcon freshmen Katie Brozovich and Drew Fillis posted an 8-0 whitewashing of Clare Cornelius and Kristen Haeberlein.
In singles play, the Falcons won three matches in straight sets, with Brozovich, Eccleston and Grubb picking up those wins. BGSU was dominant at the bottom two flights, losing only one total game.
Grubb did not lose a single game in her sixth-flight win over Reuter, for her third consecutive singles win. Grubb has won 12 of her last 13 singles matches.
At the fifth flight, Brozovich lost only one total game in a victory over Shull. Brozovich has won 10 singles matches in a row since her last loss on Jan. 18. The freshman has won 16-straight matches (singles and doubles combined) since that setback.
Eccleston swept Farmer at the third flight, winning by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. The senior co-captain now has a career total of 156 combined wins, ranking second in BGSU history.
The other three matches saw the competitors split their first two sets. Chiricosta won her opening set against McLoughlin at the second flight, then saw the BU junior capture the second set, 7-6. But, Chiricosta rolled to victory in a third-set super-tiebreaker, winning by a 10-3 final.
Chiricosta has captured 10 consecutive singles matches having last lost in the Notre Dame dual of Jan. 18. She has captured 18 of her last 19 overall matches (singles and doubles combined) since a doubles loss on Jan. 19.
BU's lone two points came in third-set 'breakers, as Hedrick outlasted Reuland at the top flight and Adami defeated Hill at the fourth level.
The Falcons now head westward for a Sunday (March 17) match vs. UIC. The Flames (7-2) saw a seven-match streak come to an end with a loss at Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. Sunday's BGSU-UIC match will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT (11:00 a.m. ET) at Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind.
