Falcons Place Ninth, Complete Season At MAC Championships
April 24, 2011 | Women's Golf
Bailey Arnold finished her first season with the Bowling Green State University women's golf team with a third consecutive top-20 finish, but it was not enough to lift the Falcons past ninth place at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championship.
Bowling Green ended Sunday's play seven strokes behind eighth-place Northern Illinois.
Arnold, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, provided herself with a stepping-stone performance to use going into her sophomore season. After shooting an 85 during Friday's play, Arnold carded scores of 77 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday to finish with 240 for the weekend. She tied for 20th with Ball State's Sarah Westaway.
Senior co-captains Marisa and Lauren Glew concluded their Falcon careers with rounds of 84 and 92, respectively. Marisa ended with a tournament total of 255 (89-82-84), while Lauren carded a 259 (82-85-92) during the weekend.
Amy Ruthenberg sandwiched dual 85s on Friday and Sunday around an 87 on Saturday to finish with a composite 257. Paula DiFrancesco posted a final mark of 264, which included an 88 on Sunday.
Kent State won their 13th consecutive MAC team championship after carding 916 (305-307-304) over the tournament's three days. They defeated Eastern Michigan by 12 strokes and earned three of the four lowest team rounds this weekend.
Eastern Michigan's Sarah Johnson led after each day of the tournament and won individual medalist honors. Her score (216) included rounds of 72, 73 and 71. She won by seven strokes over Britney Hamilton of Western Michigan.
