The Fighting Irish came out flying in the first period, outshooting Bowling Green 11-4 in the frame. Hammond and Notre Dame goaltender Mike Johnson survived the stanza without surrendering a goal, as both teams went into the first intermission tied at zero.
The score remained tied at zero until midway through the second period, when Viselli jammed home a goal in front. The goal came after sophomore Mike Fink's wrap around deflected straight to Viselli, who buried the shot, giving the Falcons the 1-0 lead.
Notre Dame responded however, scoring just 2:41 later on an even-strength goal from freshman Austin Wuthrich.
With time winding down in the second period, the Falcons attacked the Notre Dame zone. Johnson saved a one-timer in front before Williamson knocked home the rebound, giving the Falcons the 2-1 lead with 20 seconds remaining in the period. The tally marked Williamson's team-leading fourth goal of the year, and ninth of his career.
The Falcons took a 2-1 lead into the final frame but were unable to hang on, as Notre Dame tallied two goals in the third period to secure the win. Sophomore Anders Lee registered his league-leading tenth goal of the year, while senior Patrick Gaul recorded his second goal of the season. Gaul's even-strength tally at 11:59 of the third proved to be the game winner, as Notre Dame defeated BG by a score of 3-2.
The loss puts the Falcons record at 4-3-1 overall, with a record of 1-3-0 in league play. The Notre Dame win puts their record at 5-2-0 overall, with a record of 3-1-0 in league play.
The Falcons battle Ferris State at home next weekend in conference action. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
