BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head Coach Denise Van De Walle earned win number 400 Friday night against Chicago State in impressive fashion, dominating the Cougars in a 3-0 sweep.
"I love this team, I've got a great staff, its just wonderful," said Van De Walle about her 400th win.
"I am just so happy and excited for her," said senior Emily Manser, "just happy to be a part of her program."
The Falcons were sensational on both sides of the net, hitting for a .358 percentage while holding Chicago State to a -.010 percentage for the match. Freshman Meghan Mohr led the Brown and Orange in kills for the fifth time in six contests, recording 12 kills with a .611 hitting percentage. Bowling Green totaled eight service aces, led by Manser with three.
The Falcons soared from the beginning, capturing a 15-5 advantage in game one before taking the game 30-20.
"Right from the get-go, we had the momentum from the start and just carried it through," said Manser."
Manser started her errorless night by swatting four kills on all four attacks in game one. She was a perfect nine-for-nine in the win.
BGSU looked sluggish early in game two, trailing 8-3. However, the Falcons wasted little time mounting a comeback, taking game two 30-20. Sophomore Corrie Mills and Mohr led the Falcons with six kills apiece, hitting identical percentages of .500 (6-1-10).
The best was yet to come for the Falcons, as they exploded in game three. BGSU suffocated the Cougars offense, recording seven blocks while holding them to a -.391 hitting percentage. The Falcon offensive attack also shined in the 30-7 win, with six different Falcons recording a kill while hitting a booming .407 as a team.
"I was so happy with game three," said Van De Walle, "scores like 30-7 don't come around every day."
The Falcons did not slow down when the starters needed a breather. Freshman Kenda Halm smashed two kills just moments after checking into the game to go along with her three blocks in game three.
"Its great to be able to rotate them (reserves) in, and not miss a beat," said Van De Walle.
The Falcons controlled the match through out, hitting over .300 in all three games while taming the Cougars to sub-.125 percentages in all three contets. As the Falcon faithful rose to their feet to applaud Coach Van De Walle she was soaked by the traditional water bucket pour.
"Being the one to dump the bucket of water on her was really fun," said senior Ashlei Nofzinger."
The Brown and Orange look to hand Coach Van De Walle her 401st career win and fourth of the season tomorrow afternoon against East Carolina (12:30 p.m.). The Falcons will also square off against the Buckeyes of Ohio State in the night cap at 7 p.m.
