Phil Villapiano

Phil Villapiano, a Long Branch, New Jersey native and a three-year starter at defensive end for the Falcons. Villapiano was a first-team All-MAC selection as a junior and senior. In 1970, Villapiano's efforts were rewarded by being named MAC Defensive Player of the Year. He was a part of three post-season all-star teams following his senior season.Villapiano was drafted in the second round, pick 45 by the Oakland Raiders, and was a finalist for the Raiders Rookie of the Year Award the following season, after leading the team in tackles. He played in four Pro Bowls as an outside linebacker, playing thirteen seasons with the Raiders (nine) and Buffalo Bills (four). He finished his Professional Football career with 11 interceptions, including one for a touchdown. Villapiano also won a super bowl with the Oakland Raiders in 1976 when the Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings. Phil Villapiano was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1976.
