Martin Bayless

Bayless a 1984 BGSU graduate, was a recruited freshman walk-on out of Dayton Belmont High School in 1980. He earned a starting assignment for Coach Denny Stolz before his first collegiate game. A four-year starter he made 278 tackles and set school and MAC records with 27 interceptions (second highest in NCAA Division I history), including two in the 1982 California Bowl and an NCAA-leading 10 his senior season. Bayless capped his collegiate career by making two interceptions in the Blue-Gray Senior All-Star Game. He earned third-team AP All-American honors in 1983 and was a three-time All-MAC selection.
In the 1984 NFL draft, Bayless was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round, 101st overall. Bayless recorded 11.5 sacks, and two interceptions over his 13 year long player career with various teams. Bayless has worked at various coaching levels since retiring from football.Â
Bayless was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
