Alexa Wharton joined the Bowling Green staff as an assistant coach in February 2025 with the 2026 campaign marking her second with the Falcons.Β
During her first season withΒ Orange and Brown in 2025, Wharton aided the FalconsΒ to a 17-15 record while going 10-8 within the Mid-American Conference. BGSU made the MAC Tournament while Jessica Andrews and Avery Hobson earned First Team All-MAC honors. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Falcons ranked inside the top 50 in the nation for multiple stats, including total blocks (24th, 288.5), assists (30th, 1,454), kills (T-37th, 1,557), total attacks (39th, 4,203) and aces (40th, 197). The Falcons made, and hosted, the MAC Tournament at the conclusion of the regular season, advancing to the semifinals round.
Wharton arrived in Bowling Green following two seasons as the head coach at Tiffin University in her hometown. Wharton coached the Dragons to a combined record of 31-28 while going 18-16 in G-MAC play, advancing to the conference tournament each season, including a semifinal appearance in 2023. Additionally, in 2024 her team ranked ninth in the NCAAβs Division III for team blocks per set, averaging 2.63. During her two seasons, she had four players named CSC Academic All-District and two earn All-Conference honors.Β
Prior to Tiffin, Wharton served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Memphis from 2018-21, aiding the building of Sean Burdetteβs program with the Tigers. With Memphis, Wharton helped produce the programβs best start to a season in school history, opening the 2019 campaign with an 11-0 record. Wharton served on Burdetteβs staff at Green Bay as well, helping the Phoenix earn a 17-16 record in 2017, advancing to the Final Eight in the NIVC. There she coached two All-Conference selection and two All-Freshman selections as well, including the Horizon League Freshman of the Year.
Wharton served as a graduate assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the 2015 and 2016 campaigns.. With the Warhawks, she helped guide the program to an undefeated home record (32-0) and back-to-back WIAC Tournament crowns, advancing to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in 2016. As a player at Heidelberg, Wharton helped lead the Student Princes to three Ohio Athletic Conference titles, three Division III Tournament appearances and finished her career sixth on βBergβs all-time assists charts.
