Porter pulls down 19 rebounds, the highest total by a Falcon in 28 years
OXFORD, Ohio – Erika Porter stuffed the stat sheet on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 20), but the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team fell, 56-47, to Miami University in Mid-American Conference action at Millett Hall.
Porter had game-high totals of 16-points and 19 rebounds, and tied for game honors with three blocked shots for the Falcons (10-6, 4-2 MAC), but BGSU was unable to bounce back from an early deficit.
Amy Velasco joined Porter in double digits with 13 points, while Morgan Sharps added eight and Sophie Dziekan seven.
Porter's total of 19 rebounds ties her for the eighth-highest single-game total in BGSU history. It was the highest rebound total by a Falcon in nearly 28 years.
Cori Lard had 12 points for the RedHawks (4-12, 2-4 MAC), with Hennessey Luu-Brown adding 11 and Amber Tretter and Katey Richason 10 apiece.

FIRST QUARTER
• Hennessey Luu-Brown, who entered the game having gone 4-for-11 from three-point range on the season, hit triples on each of the RedHawks' first two possessions, and the Falcons used an early timeout.
• The RedHawks increased the lead to eight before Taya Ellis grabbed a teammate's missed shot in traffic, drew a foul and knocked down a free throw with 4:29 elapsed in the opening period. Just under a minute later, Amy Velasco's driving scoop shot produced the Falcons' first successful field goal of the afternoon, but a bucket and two free throws from Katey Richason gave the hosts a 12-3 lead at the 3:04 mark.
• Velasco responded immediately, driving into the paint for an and-one layup and making the ensuing free throw. Another Velasco charity toss after a technical foul on the Miami bench cut the MU lead to 12-7, but Amber Tretter's three-pointer restored the RedHawks' eight-point lead, and a Cori Lard jumper made it a 17-7 game in the final minute of the period.
• With 36.1 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, Velasco – who had six of the Falcons' seven points at that juncture – was whistled for her second foul of the game. But, with just 3.5 seconds on the clock, Paige Kohler drove and drew Richason's second foul, hitting both free throws. However, Lard hit a buzzer-beating shot to give the hosts a 20-9 lead after 10 minutes.
• The Falcons were just 2-of-14 from the field in the opening period, while Miami was 7-for-13, including 4-of-6 from the arc.
SECOND QUARTER
• Erika Porter scored four-straight points to begin the period, hitting a layup, then pulling down a teammate's missed shot and putting it back up and in. Still another Porter putback cut the MU lead to 20-15, and the RedHawks used a timeout.
• The RedHawks ended their scoring drought, but Porter blocked a Richason layup attempt before Emily Siesel fed Morgan Sharps for a left-wing triple. But the hosts responded, as Lard's three-point play gave MU a 28-18 lead with just over two minutes left in the half, and two free throws by Richason made it a 12-point game.
• With 16.9 seconds remaining, Jada Scott's three-point play gave the 'Hawks a 33-17. Porter, battling down low, was fouled with only 0.1 seconds left before the break, and made a pair of free throws to end the half.
• Porter nearly had a double-double in the first half alone, with eight points and nine rebounds to go along with two blocks.
• As a team, the Falcons shot just 21.4 percent (6-of-28) in the opening half.
THIRD QUARTER
• Five Miami players had two fouls apiece in the first half, and two of those five each picked up their third four in the opening 35 seconds of the third period. Sharps hit a runner to open the second-half scoring, and after the Falcons force a shot-clock violation, Porter scored with four white jerseys surrounding her, cutting the MU lead to nine.
• Ellis blocked shots on back-to-back Miami possessions, including a RedHawk three-point try, but BG could not take advantage. After the Falcons got several more stops, however, Porter's two free throws cut the MU lead to 33-26 four minutes into the quarter.
• The hosts got on the scoreboard with 5:37 left in the period on a pair of Tretter tosses, however, and Jada Scott hit a triple, then a long two-pointer to increase the MU lead to 14, at 40-26.
• The Falcons used a timeout, and Velasco then fed the ball inside to Porter for a layup, but Porter was called for her third foul of the game as the teams entered the media timeout. Porter remained in the game, though, and her offensive rebound kept a possession alive and resulted in a Sophie Dziekan layup. But, Luu-Brown responded with a three-pointer for a 45-30 MU lead.
• Dziekan got to the line and made a pair of shots at the 1:27 mark, and Kohler found Velasco for a triple in the final minute of the period, cutting the Falcons' deficit to 10 points after 30 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
• The RedHawks scored the first four points of the period before Velasco responded with a driving layup. Then, after good work by Porter and Dziekan to keep the ball alive after a BG miss, Velasco found Porter for an easy layup.
• But, after neither team scored for the next several minutes, Tretter's driving layup gave the RedHawks a 51-39 lead with six minutes to go. Then, Tretter knocked down a triple try on the next possession to make it a 15-point lead once again.
• Kohler found Sharps for a three-pointer at the 3:50 mark, and Velasco hit a pair of free throws several minutes later. Dziekan got inside for an and-one layup with 1:12 to go, completing the three-point play to make it a 56-47 game, but the Falcons were unable to get any closer than that nine-point margin.
