THE FALCONS VS. THE MAC
• The Falcons own the second-best record in MAC history. Heading into the 2022-23 conference opener, BGSU has an all-time record of 434-255 (.630) in MAC regular-season games, for the second-highest winning percentage of all league institutions. BG also has the second-most conference wins of all 12 programs.
• BGSU leads the all-time series with all 11 MAC foes, making the Falcons the only team in the league with a winning record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
SIX AND OH IN DECEMBER
• The Falcons went a perfect 6-0 in December. It marked the first time BGSU was undefeated for an entire calendar month since ... the previous December.
• BGSU was 4-0 in December of 2021, winning those four games by an average of 23.8 points per game. In December of '22, the Orange and Brown captured six games by an average of 26.2 ppg.
• BG has won 12 consecutive games in December, and the Falcons have gone 15-1 in December games over the last three seasons, with the lone loss a six-point setback at Purdue.
#FALCONFAST
• For the most part, the Falcons have gotten off to a fast start in games this season. BGSU has outscored the opponent in the first quarter in 10 of the 12 games to date, and the Falcons have led by double digits six times after the opening quarter.
• In BGSU's six December games (all wins, as we just mentioned), the Falcons led by an average of 12.0 points after the opening period. That includes the game at Valparaiso, where the Falcons led by a 30-11 count after one quarter en route to a 92-61 win, as well as the ETSU contest, where the Orange and Brown took a 26-12 lead after 10 minutes and beat the Bucs, 82-64. The Falcons also had double-digit leads against TAMU-Commerce and Findlay in two additional December wins.
TAKE THE LEAD. KEEP THE LEAD.
• The Falcons found themselves in an unfamiliar position in the game vs. UTRGV (Dec. 20). When the Vaqueros made a jump shot to take a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter, it marked the first time BGSU had trailed in the entire month of December.
• BGSU had not trailed since the Nov. 23 game vs. Northern Kentucky in the Stroh Center. The Falcons were behind for just under 90 seconds in the UTRGV contest before hitting the tying bucket, and BG never trailed again.
• In the last nine games – 360 minutes of action – BGSU has trailed for a grand total of 3:33 (i.e., less than 1 percent of the time).
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
• Twelve games into the 2022-23 season, the Falcons have been proficient at forcing turnovers by the opponents, while keeping their own turnover total to a relative minimum. BGSU has had fewer turnovers than the opponent in every game this season to date, and the Falcons are second in the entire nation in turnover margin.
• BG has turned the ball over 17 times or fewer in each game, while forcing the opposition into at least 16 turnovers in every game. The Falcons have averaged 11.58 turnovers, while the foes have turned the ball over 22.00 times per game.
• BGSU committed just seven turnovers in the home opener against Wright State, tied for the fourth-lowest single-game total in school history, and the Falcons had just 10 turnovers in the win over Detroit Mercy, 11 at ETSU, nine against both IUPUI and UTRGV and eight vs. Findlay.
• And, through 12 games, the Falcons have outscored the opponents, 274-115, in points off turnovers.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
• The Falcons posted a double-digit win total in non-conference games for the eighth time in school history, and the first time in nine years. The 2022-23 team picked up 11 non-league wins, tied for the second-highest total in school history.
• The 2010-11 team went 12-1 in non-league action, while three-straight BGSU teams (2006-07 through '08-09) each won 11 non-conference contests.
• Each of the previous seven BGSU teams that posted a double-digit non-league win total went on to win at least 24 games that season.
• The complete list of BGSU's year-by-year non-conference records can be found on page 10 of these notes.
GREAT START!
• BGSU is 11-1, and the Falcons have tied the school record for best start to a season. The 2022-23 season marks only the second 11-1 start in program history.
• The 2010-11 team also won 11 of 12 games to begin the year. That club lost the season opener by one point, then reeled off 15-straight wins before losing again.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE CARDINALS
• Ball State is 10-3 entering Wednesday's contest, and the Cardinals have won eight of the last nine games. Most recently, BSU hit 17 three-point field goals in a 119-53 win over Chicago State Friday evening (Dec. 30).
• Thelma Dis Agustsdottir leads the team in scoring, with 12.8 points per game, while Anna Clephane has 12.2 ppg and Ally Becki 11.3 ppg and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per outing.
• Head coach Brady Sallee's club was picked to finish second in the MAC in 2022-23, according to the preseason coaches poll. Sallee welcomed back four starters from a 2021-22 club that went 20-13 overall and 11-8 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Ball State, 46-25, in the all-time series, but the Cardinals captured the last meeting, a 91-80 decision at Worthen Arena (Feb. 5, 2022). That snapped a two-game series winning streak for the Falcons.
• The Falcons are 25-7 at home, 19-15 on the road and 2-3 at neutral sites vs. the Cardinals through the years.
