Bowling Green Closes Out Border Olympics

Laredo, Texas – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team concluded play at the Border Olympics today (Feb. 25) and finished in 13th place. The Falcons jumped one spot up from yesterday over the final round of play.

Rodrigue Vie proved to be the top Falcon again for the squad and has now been the highest finisher for the team in all but one tournament. Vie finished T-20th after shooting a total score of 219. Vie tied with Nick Hofland with 37 pars to lead the Orange and Brown in that department. Vie was also the lone Falcon to record an eagle over the two days.

Hofland concluded with a total score of 225, finishing T-49th among all golfers. Dylan Fitchet shot 227 for a T-62nd finish. He tied with Vie with a 3.08 par-3 scoring average to lead the Falcons in the category.

Curtis Hughes and Tom North finished near each other on the leaderboard, finishing with scores of 233 and 234. North fired a final-round 70 to lead the Falcons. Ian Mackenzie-Olson finished with a total score of 240.

"There were a few bright spots on an otherwise disappointing first day. Rodrigue had a good day overall and put himself in a position to have a very high finish. It was great to see Tom and Ian bounce back with solid final rounds after struggling on day one, which led to an improved team score relative to the field. Overall, there are some things we need to clean up to improve our depth of scoring in the early going. We have a quick turnaround and a tough test ahead of us with the Colleton River Collegiate next week. It will be the strongest field and toughest course we play this season."
