LAREDO, Texas – With a total team score of 571, -5, the Bowling Green men's golf team finished fourth overall in a 19-team field at the Border Olympics. The University of Houston-hosted event was cut short from 54-holes to a 36-hole competition after a rainy first day of action on Friday, although the Falcons excelled by following up its first round score of 285 with a 286 in today's play. Bowling Green combined for a total of 30 birdies and 118 pars in the opener of the spring season.
"It was a great start to the spring season for us. We came down and played two rounds prior to the start of the tournament and to come down and play so well against teams who are able to play outdoors year round was great," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said. "We had a chance to win and we beat some great teams. It's exciting to see where we as a team can go and to see where the rest of the season goes."
Redshirt sophomore Max Rispler topped the Falcons leaderboard for the third time this season as he carded an outstanding second round score of 67 to finish the competition with a score of 136, -8. The score placed Rispler in a tie for second overall in a field of 100 players, the highest individual finish of the year for the Falcons. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Rispler topped the tournament with a 3.75, -5 average on par 4 scoring, in addition to earning a tournament-leading 11 birdies over the course of the 36-holes of play. Today's round of 67 also tied the low round of the 2016-17 campaign for the Falcons and marked a new season-best for Rispler.
Also finishing below par at the Border Olympics was senior Jose Narro. The Tampico, Mexico native shaved one stroke off of his first round score of 71 for a second round of 70 today, totaling a 141, -3 and placing in a tie for 11th overall in the tournament. Narro carded a team-leading 27 pars in addition to marking a 2.88, -1 average on par 3 scoring, while the 11th place finish is his high on the season.

A native of Sevilla, Spain, Iglesias carded a score of 71 in both rounds of action and tallied nine birdies, on his way to averaging 4.50, -4 on par 5 scoring.
