First-Place Falcons Finish Off Fourth-Straight Victory

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team used a furious second-set rally to take control of its Mid-American Conference match with Buffalo Friday night. Overcoming a 24-19 deficit by scoring seven consecutive points, the Falcons rolled to a 25-17, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21 win over the Bulls. BGSU improved to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in MAC play, retaining a stranglehold on the division lead.

Shaking Out The MAC
- Bowling Green moved into a three-way tie atop the Mid-American Conference standings with Friday night's victory. Western Michigan and Ball State are both 4-1 as well.
- The Falcons hold a 1/2-game lead over Miami in the MAC East. The RedHawks are 4-2 after defeating Akron Friday night. Buffalo, Akron and Ohio are all 2-3, while Kent State is 1-4.
- The Falcons reached .500 overall at 8-8. It's the first time BGSU has been .500 or better this year since splitting the first two matches of the year.
Falcon Stat Facts
- Kallie Seimet recorded 30 digs in Friday night's match. The nation's leader in digs entering the night (at 6.67 per set), Seimet posted her fifth 30+ dig match of the season, including her third in five league contests.
- BGSU's four-match win streak is the program's longest since winning five straight from Oct. 1-15 a year ago.
- Three Falcons recorded double-digit kill totals and seven had at least five kills.
- Three Falcons had double-digit dig totals, led by Seimet's 30. Jessi Holly had 17 and Paulina Iacobelli added 13. Holly was one kill shy of a double-double.
- Madeline Brandewie was a force at the net with a team-high 14 kills. She also led the Falcons with six blocks and added four digs and an ace.
- BGSU had 9.5 blocks compared to Buffalo's 10. The Falcons, though, led in kills (65-50), digs (85-76) and attack percentage (.219-.195). Each team recorded five aces.
Play-by-Play
- Even though BGSU won the first set in impressive fashion, using a 10-1 run early for a 25-17 victory, the turning point in the match came late in the second set.
- Trailing 24-19, the Falcons reeled off seven straight points to take a 26-24 victory.
- BGSU scored three straight to get within two at 24-22 and Buffalo used its first timeout.
- Brandewie posted an ace and Nicole Slimko recorded a kill to tie the score and force the Bulls to use another timeout, tied at 24-24.
- Out of the break, the Falcons fed the hot hand and Slimko recorded back-to-back kills for the 26-24 victory.
- BGSU trailed much of the third set, eventually rallied, but Buffalo was too strong in a 25-22 victory.
- The Falcons jumped ahead early in the fourth but Buffalo took its shot at a comeback, scoring three straight for an 18-17 lead.
- Freshman Jacqueline Askin had two kills and a block in a five-point run that put the Falcons in control with a 22-18 lead.
- BGSU clinched the victory with a block on the final point of the match to win 25-21.

- Bowling Green is home Saturday evening, looking to extend its lead on the MAC East Division. The Falcons will host Akron at 5 pm for Beauty and The Beast Night.
