October 12, 2012 | Women's Tennis

The two-day, four-team tournament is being held at the University of Toledo Varsity Courts. The University of Detroit Mercy and Duquesne University are joining the Falcons and host UT in the event.
COMPLETE FRIDAY RESULTS - PDF
The Falcons had a combined record of 7-2 in singles*, and BGSU teams went a perfect 3-0 in doubles on Friday. Five BGSU players went undefeated on the day.
* Note: Results of the B Singles matches between BGSU and Duquesne were not reported. Those results will be available in Saturday's recap.
The invite utilizes a hidden dual format, as players are grouped into A (flights 1 through 3) and B (flights 4 through 6) singles brackets. Throughout the course of the two days, BGSU will compete against each of the other three schools in both singles and doubles.
While dual-match scores are not being kept, a point system is being utilized, and BGSU picked up all four available points on Friday. The team winning at least two of the three matches in any of the competitions, in both singles and doubles, earns a point.
Junior Emily Reuland had a 3-0 record in Friday action, capturing a pair of singles contests and teaming with classmate Nikki Chiricosta to pick up a doubles victory as well. In Reuland's four singles sets, she lost a total of just five games, winning (obviously) 24.
In addition to the Chiricosta/Reuland win, two other BGSU doubles teams picked up victories, as the Falcons battled Duquesne. Seniors Katie Grubb and Jade Johnson earned a doubles win on Friday, as did freshman Drew Fillis and senior Mary Hill.
In singles action, Chiricosta lost her initial singles match in a super tiebreaker against a Detroit foe, but bounced back for a straight-sets win over a Duquesne opponent. Johnson posted a win in straight sets in her lone singles match, while Fillis and Grubb each won in a tiebreaker. Freshman Katie Brozovich lost a total of just three games in a victory over a UDM foe, winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Toledo Invitational concludes on Saturday, with the Falcons scheduled to play Detroit in doubles and host UT in doubles as well as both A and B singles. Play begins at 10:00 a.m. at the UT Varsity Courts.
