Sophomore Emily Reuland had a perfect 6-0 record this weekend in Toledo
Falcons Win Multiple Titles at Rocket Invitational

The Bowling Green State University tennis team won multiple titles as play concluded at the Rocket Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15). The two-day, four-team invite was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
BGSU captured three singles flight championships and a pair of doubles crowns at the tourney, which saw the University of Detroit Mercy and Duquesne University join the Falcons and the host University of Toledo.
Juniors Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb and sophomore Emily Reuland each won singles titles at the tourney. Reuland had a perfect 3-0 record at singles flight three on the weekend, while Eccleston went 2-0 at the fourth flight. Grubb won both of her weekend matches at flight six, improving her singles record to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
In fact, Grubb has nearly matched her singles win total for all of last year. She went 9-4 in singles play in the 2010-11 campaign.
In doubles, coach Penny Dean rotated her teams throughout the two days in Toledo. Grubb and Reuland teamed to go a perfect 3-0 while playing at both the second and third flights. Junior Mary Hill also was unbeaten in doubles action on the weekend, teaming up with sophomore Nikki Chiricosta for two matches at the second flight, and pairing with senior co-captain Jessica Easdale for one third-flight contest.
Falcon competitors had a combined record of 7-4 on Saturday, wrapping up the tournament with an overall mark of 22-5. That included a 14-4 singles ledger and an 8-1 doubles slate.
On the season, BGSU singles players have combined to post a record of 47-12, while Falcon doubles teams have an aggregate mark of 21-6.
The Rocket Invitational utilized a hidden dual format, meaning that - for the most part - all BGSU players were competing against opponents from the same team at the same time. Saturday's action saw Falcons face UT in both singles and doubles and UDM in doubles only.
The Brown and Orange opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches vs. the host Rockets. Hill and Chiricosta teamed up for an 8-4 win at the second flight, while the Grubb/Reuland tandem picked up an 8-2 win at flight number three.
The Falcons then swept three doubles matches vs. Detroit, including an 8-1 win by Eccleston and Chiricosta at the top flight. The Grubb/Reuland duo returned to the court to post an 8-4 victory at flight number two, while Easdale and Hill were victorious, 8-3, in third-flight action. That third-flight match saw the Falcon duo defeat a team consisting of one player from UDM and one player from DU.
The host Rockets managed to take three out of five singles matches from the Falcons in BGSU's final action of the day. Reuland posted a straight-sets victory at the third flight, losing a total of just five games. Eccleston dropped only six games in her fourth-flight victory, while Easdale lost her match in a tiebreaker after splitting her first two sets.
Chiricosta suffered a loss, her first in singles play this season. The sophomore is now 8-1 in singles action this fall.
After her three wins in the Glass City, Reuland also has a singles mark of 8-1 this year to date. Eccleston is now 7-1 in singles action. Grubb, as mentioned, is a perfect 7-0 in her 2011-12 singles matches, while Hill is 7-2 and junior Jade Johnson 5-3. Johnson has topped her singles win total for all of last season, having gone 4-4 a year ago.
The Falcons' final fall tournament will come in three weeks, as BGSU will head to East Lansing, Mich., for Michigan State's Green and White Invite on Nov. 4-6. Prior to that time, however, selected members of the team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to participate in the ITA Midwest Regional, which runs from Oct. 20-25.
