With the victory, the Huskies improve to 9-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 in MAC play. The Falcons drop to 4-11-4 and 2-5-3, respectively. With one game left to play, the Falcons are ninth overall in the league standings with nine points, three points behind eighth-place Ohio University.
The Huskies' goal came when Samantha Hill chipped the ball over a BGSU defender to find a streaking Passaglia in the box. Passaglia put her shot into the left corner of the net.
Northern was credited with 16 shot attempts to the Falcons' seven. NIU had a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal, with both of BGSU's SOG coming in the last five minutes of the second half. Senior goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault made four saves, all in the first half of the match.
For the Huskies, Amy Carr picked up the shutout in goal, making two saves.
The Falcons close the regular-season schedule on Thursday (Oct. 28), hosting Miami University in a 3:00 p.m. start.
Despite Sunday's loss, BGSU is still alive in the race for the eighth and final MAC Tournament spot. The Falcons need a win over Miami and an Ohio loss to Akron. Under such a scenario, BGSU would be tied with the Bobcats, and would win the tiebreaker and the final tournament spot. Should the Falcons qualify for the tournament, Toledo would be the team's quarterfinal-round opponent.
