BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Orange and Brown went into tonight's game with a seven year winning streak in home openers at Anderson Arena, which they kept alive after a 3-0 victory over Oakland University. The Falcons dominated the play at the net hitting a .248 and keeping Oakland to a mere .061.
The Falcons got off to a slow start in game one behind 0-5 but once they got started there was no stopping them. The Falcons tied the game at 7-7 after a service error by Oakland's Stephanie Parkin, which led to a three point run with Maggie Karges back at the serving line and the Falcons taking the led that they would never surrender. The Falcons finished the first game with a kill by Meghan Mohr, winning 30-20.
The Falcons came out strong again in the second game but the Grizzles fought back keeping the score close until they put a solid run together to gain a five point lead, 15-10. That would be the last time they held a lead the rest of the night. The Falcons answered back with a five point run to tie the game up 15-15. The Falcons stayed on the attack and pulled away with a seven point run 26-17. The Falcons finished the second game much like the first with a huge kill by Corey Domek from Sam Fish, ending game two 30-20.
After taking games one and two the Falcons weren't playing around anymore and attacked first with an ace from Mohr. The Falcons continued to fire away at the Grizzles never letting the lead go in game three. Oakland tried to fluster the Falcons taking their first timeout after a two point run with Madeline Means to streatch the lead to 18-12. The timeout couldn't stop the Falcons as they continued on to make it a five point run. Even after a second Grizzle timeout at 21-12 the Falcons were unstoppable running off two more points for a seven point run. The Falcons continued to dominate the game and finished off the match with the crowd on their feet and a kill from Means assisted by Sam Fish, winning 30-21.
The Falcons offensive strike was led by Kendra Halm with 11 kills hitting at .368 and Stephanie Swiger with 10 kills hitting a .208. Mohr ran the offense collecting 32 assists. Chelsey Meek led the Falcon defense with 19 digs followed by Elizabeth Simon with 11 digs.
This is the second win in a row for the Falcons. They will travel west this weekend to play at the Holiday Inn Buena Park Titan Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
