MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team battled back from a two-games-to-none deficit to force a fifth game, but fell to Central Michigan in volleyball action Saturday night (Oct. 7). The Chippewas downed the Falcons (15-1, 15-7, 12-15, 9-15, 15-13) in a Mid-American Conference match at CMU's Rose Arena.
Central Michigan (8-8 overall, 3-2 MAC) came out like a house afire, hitting .500 as a team in game one, and posting a .435 hitting percentage in the second contest. But, the Falcons (9-7, 2-5 MAC) rallied to win games three and four, forcing the decisive fifth game. Central Michigan captured that final contest by two points to end the two-hour, 14-minute match.
For the Brown and Orange, junior Shyann Robinson had a team-best 14 kills, while senior JoAnna Papageorgiou and junior Caty Rommeck had 13 apiece. Freshman Susie Norris rounded out the Falcons' double-digit killers with 10.
Junior Natalie Becker had 40 assists and tied Rommeck for team honors with 10 digs. Papageorgiou had a BG-high four blocks, including two solo rejections. Rommeck's three blocks also included a pair of solos, and she added four service aces.
The Chippewas had five players with double-digit kill totals, led by Kristin Tack's 16 off the bench. Jennifer Mitchell had 15 and hit .583, adding 12 total blocks. The hosts had 18 total blocks to BGSU's eight.
Jessica Rocho had 59 assists for the Chippewas, along with a match-best 22 digs.
The Falcons will look to snap a three-match losing streak next weekend, when the team returns home for a pair of matches. BGSU will host the University at Buffalo Friday (Oct. 13) and Northern Illinois University Saturday (Oct. 14), with both matches scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena.
