Celebrating 50 Years Of The Doyt
The Bowling Green Falcons needed every available second, but they emerged victorious 45-42 over the Big Ten's Indiana Hoosiers on Sept. 13, 2014. The win was just the second in the career of both head coach Dino Babers and starting quarterback James Knapke. It was also the second-ever win over a power conference team by BGSU at Doyt Perry Stadium. The other occurred in 2002.
Â
BGSU struggled to convert promising drives in the first half. Four times, the Falcons drove into scoring position, and four times they came away with just a field goal. Indiana scored just twice in the half, but they led 14-12 at halftime.
Â
The second half was a much different story. Bowling Green put together five drives of at least 10 plays and 75 yards, each of which ended in a touchdown. However, the Hoosiers scored answered the first four with touchdowns of their own, and they led 42-39 with 1:59 to play.
Â
On the final drive, Knapke completed eight passes to drive BGSU 88 yards for the winning score. He connected with Roger Lewis from two yards out with nine seconds remaining to give the Falcons the victory.
Â
Lewis caught four passes for 32 yards on the drive to complete an epic day in which he hauled in 16 receptions for 149 yards. He helped Knapke set school records for completions (46) and attempts (73), as Knapke threw for 395 yards and three scores. Travis Greene ran 24 times for 123 yards and a touchdown. In total, Bowling Green ran a school-record 113 plays in just 31:20 of possession time.
Â
The Falcons' win over Indiana was the second of eight in the 2014 season for BGSU, which culminated in a Camellia Bowl win over South Alabama.
