VENICE – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team toured the city of Venice today (Aug. 15) as the program's Cultural Immersion Tour of Italy continued. The team took a 20-minute boat ride into the city, had about a two-hour tour, and then had approximately four hours to explore in groups. Venice, well known for its gondolas and scenic canal, has no cars on the island.
Each day, a member of the squad will break down the team's adventures, and recap the day. Today, sophomore guard Malik Hluchoweckyj – a native of Omaha, Neb. – talked about the Venice tour and his experiences with the team on the basketball court.
"Today has just been a really good experience. Seeing all of the beautiful artwork, and the St. Mark's Basilica – it's just been crazy. The biggest difference was just the water. We got out to the island on a boat. We got to see the whole city, and go through the canal. It's been pretty cool.
"The best part about these kinds of trips is that you get to be with your brothers. We get to spend more quality time, and learn more about each other. We have become more of a unit on the court. It's a good experience for all of us, and it's almost like a head start to the season."
