#BGinItaly: Falcons Tour The Vatican
August 11, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Day 1 Recap (The Colosseum)
Day 2 Recap (Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona)
ROME – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team toured the Vatican, and saw the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica today during the team's Cultural Immersion Tour of Italy. The team spent over three hours in the world's smallest state, and spent most of its time inside the Vatican Museums. The program also became experts on Michelangelo, and his sculptures and paintings.
Each day, a member of the squad will break down the team's adventures, and recap the day. Today, redshirt-sophomore forward Rasheed Worrell – who hails from Coker, Ala. – talked about the program's tour of the Vatican, and how the team is coming together on the court.
"Today, we got to visit the Vatican. We went through a lot of Catholic history, as well. We were also able to learn about different Popes, and saw some of their mummified (but preserved and covered) bodies, which was really interesting and a culture change for a lot of the guys. It was overall a great learning experience.
It's also great to be able to get on the court, as well. Heading into a new season, it's great to get to know the players and how everyone is going to mesh. We have guys like Ismail Ali – he's developed a lot since last year, and he's becoming a great floor general. You also have Wes Alcegaire – a great scorer and more efficient this year. Also, you have the new freshmen, and it's very intriguing to see those guys play."
