FLORENCE – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team took a walking tour of Florence today (Aug. 13), continuing its 10-day Cultural Immersion Tour of Italy. After about a two hour tour – in which the team saw the famous Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower, among other landmarks – players were allowed to split up and experience the city by themselves in groups.
Each day, a member of the squad will break down the team's adventures, and recap the day. Today, junior forward Jeffrey Uju – who is a transfer from Western Texas College, and a native of Bolingbrook, Ill. – talked about the Florence tour and how the team is coming together on the court. Â
"Today has been great. We walked about three miles today, and saw a lot of the architecture. There's a lot of shopping malls in Florence, and a lot of bridges. There was a specific bridge with shopping centers on it, and we learned that a lot happens at night on the bridge. There are a lot of musicians that go there, and it's a nice place to hang out and meet new people.
"On the court, we've been getting better every game. The team we played last night (Florence All-Stars) was a better team than the first team we played, but we still beat them by more points. I think things are going pretty well. We have great freshmen, and the seniors are great. I'm just trying to find my role on the team. The basketball part of the trip has been amazing."
