Volleyball: Five Things About Alyssa Maloney
July 04, 2016 | Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Senior middle hitter Alyssa Maloney emerged as a leader for the Falcons in 2015 and will be asked once again to be a leader in her senior season this year.
Last year, Maloney earned a spot on the 2015 Academic All-MAC Team for the second straight season. Named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, Maloney also earned a spot on the Indiana Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Maloney, who played in all 29 matches and all 112 sets on the season, ranked eighth in the MAC in both service aces per set at 0.29 and in blocks per set at 0.96 on the year. The middle hitter led the Falcons with 33 service aces, totaled a team-high 107 total blocks on the season and was third on the team with 227 kills, all of which were career-highs. She was also third on the team in points with 321.5 on the year, had two double-doubles and posted double digit kills nine times.
Here are five things you might not know about Alyssa Maloney:
1. My goal is to pursue a Master's degree in physical therapy.
2. My favorite social media accounts to follow are food accounts, specifically @foodintheair. (They won't repost my pictures though, so I'm thinking of boycotting!)
3. I love glitter and bright colors. I think it's meant for little kids, but it's so fun.
4. Family is a very important aspect in my life. I am the youngest of four kids. I have two older brothers and an older sister who I look up to a lot.
5. I'm terrified of bees. I got stung when I was little and my face swelled up like a duck, but I refused to let my parents take pictures because I was so embarrassed.
The Falcons will have a total of 15 home matches in 2016, the most that BGSU has had in a single season since 2005. BGSU will open up the year with back-to-back weekend home tournaments in the Hampton Inn Invitational on Aug. 26-27 and the BGSU Invitational on Sept. 2-3.
