FLORENCE – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program continued its Cultural Immersion Tour of Italy on Friday (Aug. 12) by traveling via bus from Rome to Florence. The team concluded the day by defeating the Florence All-Stars, 90-59. Bowling Green is now 2-0 on the trip.
Each day, a member of the squad will break down the team's adventures, and recap the day. Today, freshman forward Rodrick Caldwell – a native of Dayton, Ohio – talked about the victory over the Florence All-Stars, and his experience as a whole in Italy.
"I thought I played well today, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without my teammates. We were all knocking down shots, so that made the game easier for me. Overall, I've been enjoying the trip a lot. Being able to see all of the different places, but the best part is hangout out with all of my brothers, and enjoying the times. It's all fun, but we get to bond, and get a better connection, so that's what I like most."
           --Rodrick Caldwell

FINAL SCORE: Bowling Green 90, Florence All-Stars 59
End Quarter 2: 38-27, BGSU
End Quarter 3: 73-43, BGSU
End Quarter 4: 90-59, BGSU
Both teams started slowly, missing many open shots from the floor, but the Falcons played from in front nearly the entire game, trailing only for a few minutes at the start of the first quarter. In the third quarter, the Falcons erupted, scoring 35 points to take a 30-point lead after three quarters. Antwon Lillard came to life at the start of the third, scoring all eight points in a matter of minutes. Rasheed Worrell dunked on a player in the post, threw down a reverse slam on a fast break, and Ismail Ali converted a three-point attempt while being fouled. The Falcons pushed the ball hard nearly every time down the court, and clearly wore the Florence All-Stars down. Florence had a lot of talent on the team, including former Detroit Mercy standout Paris Bass, and a number of first-division professional players. The game was played according to FIBA rules (including playing with a FIBA basketball). The game lasted 40 minutes (four 10-minute quarters).
