BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team's Orange and Brown World Series will continue, as team Brown earned a 6-5 victory in Game 3. Orange now leads the best-of-five series, 2-1. The game lasted six innings.
Trailing 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning, sophomore Randy Righter registered a two-out, two-strike single up the middle that plated two runs. Junior Tony Landi went on to work a perfect sixth inning to secure the victory for team Brown.
Scoreless after two innings, Brown struck for four runs in the top of the third. Freshman Joe McGuinness led the frame off with a walk, and after fellow freshman Mitchell Schneider laid down a sacrifice bunt, Blake Jenkins – also a freshman – delivered a two-RBI triple.
Redshirt-freshman Tyler Anderson – who started for Orange and pitched three innings – induced what could have been a double-play ball, but the ball took a big hop and rolled all the way to the wall in right-centerfield. Jenkins then quickly crossed home plate himself, when redshirt-junior Nick Glanzman squeezed him home with a bunt. Glanzman then stole second, and scored on a play when senior Matt Smith singled through the left side. Smith was thrown out at second, but Glanzman alertly ran home from third on the throw to second, giving Brown a 4-0 lead.
Redshirt-junior Andrew Lacinak – who started for Brown – proceeded to get the always-desired shutdown inning with a 1-2-3 third. But Orange scored five in the fourth – after redshirt-freshman Axel Bueter tossed a clean frame – to take the lead right back.
With two outs and a runner at first, freshman R.J. Williams was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Hunter Clanin then drew a walk to load the bases. Freshman Brad Croy entered to relieve Lacinak, but immediately hit sophomore Cody Callaway with a pitch, bringing home a run. Junior Dan Ferguson proceeded to chop a ball to second that got by Nate Rau, allowing two more runs to score. Freshman Cam Daugherty then gave Orange a 5-4 lead with a single that scored Callaway.
Brown took the lead for good the very next frame, however. After Schneider was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning, Jenkins singled to put runners at the corners. Smith later drew a walk with two outs, setting up Righter's two-RBI single.
