18 Questions with Shelby Wilson
February 26, 2014 | Women's Golf
This spring season, the BGSU Athletic Communications office, along with both the men's and women's golf teams, will bring you a segment called "18 questions with" each week. This week's 18 questions are with junior golfer Shelby Wilson.
1. What is your hometown?
Carrollton, Texas
2. What is your favorite movie?
Well, I'm a fan of pretty much every genre so that's hard. Something I can ALWAYS watch though is Harry Potter.
3. What is the most played song now on your IPOD?
Â
Somewhere Only We Know by Keane. But Let it Go from the Frozen soundtrack is quickly approaching!!
Â
4. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love watching movies - it's my favorite way to escape. Another thing is I've been working on a 1000 piece puzzle off and on since Christmas break. It's the movie poster for Catching Fire… It's definitely being framed after I'm done with it!
5. Where is your favorite place to hang out at in BG?
Â
Cookie Jar!
6. If you could have any superpower, what would you choose?
I wish I could control time.
7. When do you first start playing golf?
I lived on a golf course in Arizona and my dad would take me out starting when I was 4 or 5… My parents put me in a clinic when we moved to Texas at age 7 and I've been playing ever since!
Â
8. Who got you started playing golf?
My grandpa bought me my first set of clubs and my dad would take me out on the course.
Â
9. What has been your favorite course to play?
Tonto Verde in Arizona.
10. What is the toughest place you have ever played at?
Hawthorns – so tough.
11. What is your routine or ritual prior to playing a round of golf?
The night before a tournament starts I like to eat mac and cheese and I have to clean my clubs.
Â
12. What is the best advice you've ever received?
My high school coach told me the night before I left for BG that no one is going to remember me by how many low scores I shoot, what my grades are, or anything like that. People will remember me by seeing the effort I put into my relationships. I always have that advice in the back of my mind, especially when I've been growing up and changing at college. I pride myself on letting people know the real me. I want my teammates not to remember me by who I was as a player, but as a person.
13. Who is your favorite golfer?
Honestly, I don't really watch golf.
14. Why did you choose to attend BGSU?
Coach Young was different from any other coach I had encountered. I was really on board with her focus, fun, family approach and wanted to be apart of a team who was able to truly enjoy the sport they played while getting better and succeeding.
Â
15. What is your major of study?
Nursing.
Â
16. What has been your favorite class at BGSU?
I loved taking Psyc 101 freshman year. I had it after lifting at 8am, but I was so excited for it and never wanted it to end. I read the textbook for fun…
17. What do you want to do after you graduate?
I'm still trying to figure out what area of nursing I want to go into… but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to grad school to get my MSN.
Â
18. What is your favorite golf memory at BGSU?
Â
At our Arizona tournament last year, we played pool at one of our host families' houses for a couple hours. Hannah Lewis took me down in the final but it was a fun time.
