Mwembia Named MAC Player of the Week

Sophomore 'keeper leads BGSU to three more shutouts
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Anthony Mwembia has been named the Mid-American Conference's Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning (Sept. 5). Mwembia, a sophomore, earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.

Mwembia's honor is the Falcons' third accolade this week, and the program's fourth in the first two weeks of the regular season. Sophomore Chris Brennan was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week last Tuesday (Aug. 29), while senior Alexis Souahy was chosen to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday (Sept. 4). Earlier Tuesday (Sept. 5) morning, junior Moe Mustafa was named to this week's TDS Team of the Week.
Mwembia, a native of Toulouse, France, recorded three shutouts as the Falcons were a perfect 3-0-0 last week. Mwembia made six saves in BGSU's home win over Cleveland State last Tuesday night, then made six more stops in Friday's win at Drexel. On Sunday evening, Mwembia was called upon to make just one save in BG's victory at Penn.
On the season, Mwembia is a perfect 4-0-0 with a goals-against average of 0.00, having not allowed a goal in 360 minutes of action. BGSU has posted four consecutive shutouts for the first time in almost two decades, since November of 1997.
Mwembia has a career record of 12-6-4 with the Falcons. He has kept 12 clean sheets in 22 career matches at BGSU, and his career GAA is now just 0.60.
The Falcons, now 4-0-0 on the year, return home for the team's lone afternoon match of the regular-season home schedule. BGSUÂ faces Western Illinois on Saturday (Sept. 9) at Cochrane Stadium, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. Admission to all Falcon home soccer matches is free.
