Mustafa's honor is the Falcons' third national-team-of-the-week accolade in the first two weeks of the regular season, and the second in as many days. Sophomore Chris Brennan was named to the TDS Team of the Week last Tuesday (Aug. 29), while senior Alexis Souahy was chosen to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday morning (Sept. 4).
Mustafa, a native of Westlake, Ohio (Westlake HS), helped the Falcons to three clean sheets, and also scored a pair of goals at BG went a perfect 3-0-0 last week. Mustafa and the Falcons posted a 2-0 home win over Cleveland State on Tuesday, then went on the road to pick up wins at Drexel (3-0, Friday) and Penn (2-0, Sunday) over the weekend.
Mustafa, who had a goal and an assist in BGSU's season opener vs. IUPUI, scored the first two goals of the win over Drexel, for the first multi-goal game of his career. A center back, he has guided the Falcons to four shutout wins in as many matches, and the junior also leads the team in scoring, with seven points on three goals and an assist. Mustafa has played all 360 minutes this season, as he and the Falcons have not allowed a goal.
The Falcons, now 4-0-0 on the year, return home for the team's lone afternoon match of the regular-season home schedule. BGSUÂ faces Western Illinois on Saturday (Sept. 9) at Cochrane Stadium, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. Admission to all Falcon home soccer matches is free.
