BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University senior forward Skylar Fleak has earned national recognition following her four-goal effort on Friday, Aug. 18 against Oakland. TopDrawerSoccer has named Fleak to its National Team of the Week on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The team is comprised of 11 NCAA Division I women's soccer players.
Â
This is the second honor for Fleak following her career day. She was also named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week by the MAC office on Tuesday.
Â
The Sunbury, Ohio native became the third player in program history to record four goals in a single game and the first in 13 years. She also increased her career goal total to 20, which moved her into a tie for third-place on BGSU's all-time list.
Â
Fleak broke the ice in the Falcons' season opener only 8:57 into the contest. She took a pass from Maureen Kennedy and shot the ball through the hands of goalkeeper Sophia Braun from five yards out. Three minutes later, Marissa Swindell forced a turnover and passed to Fleak for the game-winner. After halftime, Swindell again fed Fleak, who beat three defenders to sail a six-yard shot past Braun at the 47:07 mark. She capped the scoring with 25 minutes remaining by knocking in a corner from Madison Schupbach.
Â
The victory gave BGSU its third straight season-opening win and its first-ever triumph over Oakland. The Falcons will continue their non-conference slate with a pair of road matches next weekend. First, they travel to Morehead, Ky. on Friday, Aug. 25 for a 6:00 p.m. kick against Morehead State. Then, they head to Indianapolis, Ind. on Sunday, Aug. 27 for an afternoon tilt against Butler. Bowling Green opens their home schedule on Friday, Sept. 1 by tackling Michigan State.
