Skylar Fleak Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week
August 22, 2017 | Women's Soccer
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Skylar Fleak, a senior forward from Sunbury, Ohio, has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Fleak scored a career-high four goals and led the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Oakland on Friday, Aug. 18.
Fleak broke the ice for the Falcons in the 2017 season with a goal after only 8:57. She followed that up with the game-winning score three minutes later. Marissa Swindell caused a turnover in BGSU's offensive zone and passed to Fleak, who drilled the ball into the net. After halftime, Fleak earned Bowling Green's tenth all-time hat trick by beating three defenders after a Madison Schupbach pass at the 47:07 mark. She capped the victory with a goal off a Schupbach corner with 25 minutes left in the match. Fleak's four goals were scored in only five shots.
Fleak became just the third player in Falcons' history to score four goals in one contest and the first since 2004. She increased her career total to 20, which moved her into a tie for third on BGSU's all-time career goals list. In addition, she out-scored every other MAC team during the opening weekend, including nine teams that played twice.
BGSU returns to action on Friday night in Morehead, Ky. against the Morehead State Eagles. They continue their non-conference slate with another match on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind. against the Butler Bulldogs.
