Tim McAuliffe Named To Rimington Award Watch List

BOWLING GREEN, OH- The Rimington Trophy Committee has released its 2017 Fall Watch List. Tim McAuliffe, one of ten MAC centers on the list, has been recognized for this prestigious award for the third time in his career. The Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I College Football. McAuliffe was also named to the Rimington Watch List in each of the past two seasons.

McAuliffe, a redshirt senior, started all 12 games at center during the 2016 season. He was a key component in helping running back Fred Coppet rush for more than 1,000 yards on the season, finishing fifth all-time at BGSU in rushing yardage. He was also named MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week after a game against Kent State in which the offensive line paved the way for a 420-yard game. This was the first time the Falcons had rushed for more than 400 yards since 1998.

In 2015, McAuliffe started on the offensive line that helped BGSU's offense set new records in points scored (591), first downs (389), passing yards (5,135) and total yardage (7,655). He blocked for the MAC Player of the Year, Matt Johnson, and allowed him to throw to Roger Lewis who had a record-setting season in which he became an All-American receiver. McAuliffe started and played in 13 games.

During his time at BGSU, the Falcons have advanced to three MAC Championship games, defeating Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship contest in both 2013 and 2015. In 2014, the Falcons won the inaugural Raycom Media Camellia Bowl in which McAuliffe was a part of.Â

The Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.9 million for the cystic fibrosis community thus far, and is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation. The Boomer Esiason Foundation has raised over $130 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a first-team All-American center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982 and became the Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nations finest college interior lineman.
